Edwards managed 900 yards and 7 TDs least year which right now I just can't see from Plax. It appears they've just added Derek Mason who is likely to see some of Plaxico's targets. And Plax has already rolled his ankle while running. No contact involved. Not what you want to see from a guys that's in his 30s and hasn't played in a couple seasons.

Looks like I jumped the gun a little on this one. Jets have made an offer to Mason but I guess he's holding out hope of returning to Baltimore.Cotchery's already been cut so if Mason doesn't fill the #3 WR role in New York then it looks like the Jets will use rookie Jeremy Kerley.
Still think 900 yards and 7 scores seems high for Plax though.
Out on the other coast, the 49ers have signed Braylon Edwards to a 1 year deal. Would love to hear people's thoughts on Edwards. I saw one website say he's a WR4/5 this year and I think that seems a little low. I know Alex Smith sucks but Harbaugh should be able to maximize the little talent he has. Low end WR3 or high end WR4 seems better to me. I have him #33 in my WR rankings.
It looks like the Bears are intent on moving Johnny Knox to the bench. I expected the newly acquired Roy Williams to start but surprised to see Devin Hester in front of Knox. And it sounds like Sam Hurd and Dane Sanzanbacher are having an impact at WR as well.
Have Knox as my 29th WR right now but if he really will be losing a bunch of snaps then he'll plummet in my rankings.

Excuse me. I made a mistake here. Knox has missed some practices with a back injury and this has allowed other Bears WRs to make progress in the WR pecking order.
The Martz offense can add plenty of value to WRs so this is a situation to monitor.
My two favorite value WRs this year are both out injured for multiple weeks
Emmanuel Sanders: out 3 weeks and in a walking boot. He had a couple offseason foot surgeries which I have to think plays a part in this. Keeping a close eye on this.
Jacoby Ford: broken hand and likely out 2 weeks. Fortunately is only competition is the likes of DHB, Louis Murphy, & Chaz Schilens so his starting spot is safe.
Probably have to drop them a little bit in the rankings for right now, but if both return on schedule they should be fine to take in late August and early September drafts. Anyone drafting earlier should be a little more cautious.

Knox is officially listed as the 4th WR on the Bears 1st depth chart.
Mike Martz says Knox needs to "be more consistent." Makes perfect sense since Roy Williams has always been the model of consistency.
And Bears WR coach Darryl Drake says that Devin Hester was the Bears "best receiver last year."
So I guess with the level of stupid we see from the Bears coaches, it's actually pretty easy to see how Knox is buried on the depth chart.
Looks like Maclin has finally started working out and hopes to start practicing next week sometime. Tough to know what to do with him in fantasy drafts right now. I'd guess about mid to late 20s at WR for the time being since we just don't know what to expect. Should have a much better feeling for the situation within a couple weeks. Hopefully it won't be too late for most fantasy drafts.
See that my former Jayhawk WR Dezmon Briscoe is making a serious push for the starting job opposite Mike Williams in Tampa. Benn should be back soon so this is a competition to monitor. One of them could have late round value. Just not sure which one.
What are your guys' thoughts on Darren McFadden? He is a guy that I have a hard time ranking since Michael Bush (I think) snatched a lot of his carries last year...I had McFadden last year and was very happy with him but feel like he could of had a monstrous year if Bush wasn't so involved... |
This is from a KC Joyner article titled "Most Underrated Fantasy WRs" on ESPN.com and is some of the worst fantasy advice I've ever read.
"It isn't yet clear whether Williams will be up to the task, so drafting him a la carte is a bit risky. Because both players have a low cost (Knox's average draft spot is No. 104, Williams No. 113), the best thing to do would be to handcuff them and keep whoever ends up winning the job. The payoff likely will be a top-25 fantasy wideout."
