I love seeing this "tired" bullshit NHL is by far the most demanding championship to win out of any sport. NO sport plays every other night with that type of physicality and they come back night after night in the playoffs and don't lose a step. I know Soccer is physically draining but for much of the contest these guys are walking around as well, its not a full sprint back and forth a la NBA. Few good nights sleep and some food and Croatia will be just fine. Please keep pounding England and inflating my Hrvatska line!!!
And I love hearing people say what you say... I would be concerned if people were agreeing with me. As for your point, 1/3 of the time these guys aren't on the ice and they have constant breaks. In soccer you don't leave the field for 90 minutes, no break nothing other than a halftime. Try it some time, if you haven't already.
Played pro hockey and played soccer until I was 18.....trust me when I say there is nothing more physically demanding than fighting other than hockey. There are several breaks during the 90 minutes played, not sure what game you're watching. I've played both sports at high level and have nothing to prove but the "tired" factor means fuck all when these guys played their whole life for this moment.

You should be concerned, clearly everyone is agreeing with you as England is pegged as the favourite. Homer glasses will lose you a lot of money. England are frauds. Croatia and England both played 1 good team. What was England’s result ? Columbia would have beaten England had their best player not be out!!. And I’m pretty sure playing the host country isn’t a cake walk. I’m just trying to let you know, this isn’t as sure fire as you think it is. England will struggle to score. Smoke and mirrors smoke and mirrors.
Colombia had close to a home game (you saw all that yellow right?) and they are a better team than Russia.
we'll see man. Obviously I'm sticking my neck out on this one.

Curious if that was the case why can these hockey guys play every 2 days no problem, and soccer they play max 2 games a week....
Come on with the hockey tough guy stuff. I have never played soccer but I've skated. real nice to know that with one simple push i can go about what, 20 yards. that takes a real man. and it seems real men wear pads in hockey because you might get hurt from all that rough manly stuff. modric is short. anybody has a chance to play soccer.
I play soccer and you are constantly moving because the ball is moving and you move with it. The more energy you have the better you are. If you're walking you're not playing-see Argentina walking around, see Argentina leaving the World Cup. Argentina was notorious this World Cup for walking around and they were garbage.

sorry i mean never played hockey-other than floor hockey. did plenty of that was called the "axe man" because I swang so high. lol
played plenty of soccer and you use up ALL your energy in a game, and either you're not playing, or you're playing in a garbage rec league where it doesn't matter. these guys in the world cup have space because they're so good on the one-touch you can't get the ball from them. after the game most of these guys are spent-how many times do you see them sitting or lying on the turf because the world cup games mean so much to them.
fighting yeah I give these guys all the respect in the world I couldn't last 5 seconds in there I'd run like a chicken. but hockey a real tough guy sport? gotta disagree with that one....goalies look like they have a built-in fortress they're so protected nowadays. rarely if ever do you see a goalie get hurt, and it's not often you see hockey players lose their knees like they do in soccer because they're on the ice and they can just fall like a figure skater and get back up.

Generally speaking, unless there is an identified injury, world class athletes are back to full health after 3 or more days rest. The topic is silly really.

Please elaborate about all of this except the part about "I do a lot of football" - I believe I am not fully grasping the point. Good thread, I believe Brazil was unlucky and thanks in advance.
American football. Well-known by now that the team that has the bye week/extra rest has to cover I think 5 or something like that extra points on the spread.
OK the NFL, now I get it. Thanks.

Bud, I'm with you on this but I think what you and everyone else is missing is the fact that it is not about the physical fatigue as much as the mental. I heard athletes debate this stuff on tv and radio and the consensus seems to be that guys get tired mentally and are therefore not as sharp or focused as they are used to being under normal conditions. It is the mental lapses that end up hurting a team or player more than the physical stuff.

Yeah I saw some of that. FIFA World Cup Tonight Cobi Jones, Grant Wahl, and Gus Hiddink all said physical wouldn't be a problem. same reasoning given here-they are world class athletes, 3 days is enough. They talked for 5 minutes about it and the girl host said she got bored with it (so what else is new...women lol)
Hiddink said mental would be a problem, as you say. I don't go with that, I go with the physical. I just disagree.
Funny though that the announcers-Stu Holden and John Strong, said Croatia was drained, and Stu Holden was saying England should be licking their chops watching it.
So there's a real, defined split.

And like I said other than tired (which we can debate forever no resolution) there are 2 things here that YOU CANNOT DENY!!:
-Their formation WILL change on defense. They lost a defender who plays for Atletico Madrid, one of the best defensive teams in the World. Anybody who plays defense on soccer knows that when your formation changes, suddenly you are much more vulnerable because you are less able by instinct to anticipate where your other defenders are. Back line of 4 is like a chain and they must work together and anticipate.
-The goalie has a hamstring injury. 2 times went down in severe pain. Didn't take a goal kick. Sure he made it through, but hamstring injuries sure you can play with one, but if it is tight it slows you down. Can you imagine them starting this goalie if he really does have a hamstring problem??
good stuff fellas thanks.

Glad to hear. Could tell you were an arrogant jerk from a mile away. Only a douche bag would say hockey is a tough sport.
Let us know who you're on so i can think about fading your pick.

Hockey players take pucks to the face and lose teeth and dont miss a shift you stupid prick.
Oh yeah sorry they wear helmets face shields pads all over their body and mouth guards but yeah...they sure ate tough guys. IIwill give you this the need to see the dentist. Better have a good dental plan.
In the old days they used to go without helmets at least that was respectable.
Football players don't put on what hockey players put on. Their pads on their legs are miniscule.
Pucks ice rink helmets sticks pads penalty box boards glass are you serious is this a game or some kind of circus.

JTomorrows game doesn’t matter anyways. World Cup winner comes from today’s game. Les bleus at +900 after the group stage are taking it all son. You’ll see what a real team looks like today.
They are certainly going to be favored. No question they have much more talent, at least on paper, than either team.
Group of Death/Final 8 was so much better than the other half. Preaching to the choir everybody knows this...
