Any Moutain bike experts?

Listn I like to ride my bike which is junk bike from wally world, I basically bent the rim and gears skip. I have a toddler carrier on back which I use to put my son in who is now 3, put we use to blow the back tire tube any time we went over any kind of big bump,log,rock etc. So i went and bought a chariot that hooks behind its a nice one and he likes it.

My question is that I want another bike do i get a hard tail, or full suspension etc. I will not be going in grandcanyon mt rock everest shit,more like mountain trails which have some logs roots etc,i live in cny.I want to keep the toddler seat because i might use it in certain situations not sure cause like i said the tire blows. Input would be great.

I got a cheap $250 bike from Sports Authority and it blows ass.  The brakes don't work.... And I hit a tree.

Went to a bike shop and demoed a $500 bike and it was like freaking bank.

I don't care, my gears skip and my rims are bent but I still ride the shitty bike tho 

Major difference between any $500 bike from a bike shop and a $250 from Sports Authority.

If could go back in time.............. would for sure go to a bike shop.

I ENDED UP BUYING A GARY FISHER HARD TAIL USED! I WENT TO LOCAL BIKE SHOP AND TRIED A FEW OUT. THE LOWEST THEY WOULD GO IS 2K

I WENT ON CRAIGSLIST PAID 165$ FOR THE FISHER NOT AS HIGH END AS THE SPECIALIZED BUT IT WILL DO FOR NOW.
