I watched this movie on Netflix, which is essentially a glorified infomercial for juicers, and was Intrigued.
I already had a juicer (wedding present) and thought that I would give it a shot. More to see if I had the discipline to stick to it .
I decided to go for a 10 day juice fast, where you only drink juices (not the sugar crap you get in stores), but a steady diet of Spinach, Kale, Carrots, Broccoli, Apples, Celery, Tomatoes etc.
I am on day 6 and have lost 18 pounds.
Pretty sure when I go back to solid food I will put a lot of it back on, but I have to say that this is pretty amazing, because I have never had so much energy. I have been doing a lot of cardio lately, and am amazed at how much improvement I have done on my 2 mile run. In one week's time I have Shaved 45 seconds off of my 2 mile run.
Just curious if there were other people out there that had tried it, and have any tips. I am seriously thinking about continuing this through the rest of December.

Not steroids, but go on a juice diet.

i thought this was going to be about steroids. you got me.
i have not done any sort of juice diet because i believe in eating a good amount of meat. but if you are going to do it, avoiding sugar and making sure you add vegetables is the way to go, as you are ding.
i don't think it's sustainable over time but probably a decent thing to do for a while. when you get off of it, you really don't have to gain weight. a jui8ce diet is probably higher in carbs than a regular diet. just stay way from the sugar and wheat products and you'll be fine. eat meat and nuts and you won't get hungry.

I definitely miss meat. I may break down today, as I am going to the in-laws after church and my brother in law just got a buck. I am sure there will be venison served, and I love venison.
Day 7 I am @ 21lbs.

Im not getting all that hungry.

do it. i love venison as well and there's nothing wrong with eating it (unless you are a peta type, which i kind of am, but i love venison, steak, etc. so it eat it anyway). but natural meat without the hormones, antibiotics and other shit is as good as anything for you. no sugar or carbs. no reason not to eat that.

Yeah, I'm bringing juice with me, but Will definitely partake.
I am highly skeptical of this diet, keeping the pounds off that is.
I have lost close to 10% of my body-weight in less than a week.
I have recently gained about 25 lbs, during football season Wings, Beers, lack of exercise etc. I feel like once I get through that initial 25 lbs, it might start slowing down.
I said 10 days, but I might take this to `15 or 20 to see how far I can take this.
I definitely love food, but it would be nice to start the new year 30- 50 lbs lighter.
Also, I should add that I have started a new running regime, and have completely ceased weight lifting for the next couple of months.
Run 3.5 mi. Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat.

running can be rough on your knees but other than that, it's definitely a good thing to do. i think swimming is the best exercise but it's not as convenient for a lot of people, myself included. i went from working at least 5 days a week, every week without fail for as long as i can remember to quitting and never returning in 2004. i'm glad i did.

Club -- in post #2 you say you believe in eating a good amount of meat and then in post #4 you say that you are kind of a Peta type?
Just busting your balls but figured I would point it out anyways.

I have sympathy for animals being mistreated. Who wouldn't, if they have ever seen it.
The movie Food Inc, where the chickens are given so many steroids that they can't walk, and are sitting in inches of their own feces.
Disgusting.
But a hunter stalking and killing prey and utilizing the meat for his family to eat is something that is pretty awesome in my opinion. I hate the idea of trophy hunting.
I also like the idea of natural farms.

basically i explain it this way. here is my philosophy on eating. it's basically the paleo diet philosophy. humans have evolved over many years and have been eating a certain diet for most of that time. at this point in our evolution there is a certain diet that is ideal- the one that has sustained us to this point in our evolution. that diet largely includes meat because that is what our predecessors had access to. so the human body is at its maximum state of fitness and health when it eats the diet evolution intended. since that includes meat, that's what i'm going to eat. i put my own interests ahead of the animals. that and i really do like meat.

Club, there is a lot of science (the chinese study) that indicate that meat, Dairy, and refined flour/ sugar are the worst things you could consume.
I have decided after the juice fast (lost 29 total lbs) 10 days, that I am going to try to stay away from meat sugar, flour etc. for as much as possible.
Movie Forks over knives kind of explains it all.

i imagine there are reliable sources out there that say meat is not healthy. i disagree and believe the sources that take a more paleo approach. i will check out that movie though.
however, i would certainly agree that sugar, wheat and just about all white products are bad for us. one rule you can go by, if it comes in a box, don't eat it.

I did a 10 day juice fast back in September and thought it was great.
Can't remember, but I think Iost over 10 lbs. But like you, I
had put on a lot of weight (mostly beer) the weekend prior during a
football trip.
Once I got off, I put a lot of the weight back on. It's really hard for me to control what I eat, b/c I love food so much. I felt like the days immediately after the juice, I was able to restrain from gorging myself anytime there was food in front of me. Also, I go home to visit my parents a lot, and my mom always cooks a ton of food when I'm there, and that is when I have absolutely zero control. I did however feel pretty good during the fast, had plenty of energy, and didn't feel all that hungry. Note that the first 2-3 days were really hard; got hungry a lot, had headaches, and no energy. Not sure if you experienced this. Something else that I noticed was that I looked much better physically. Some of my old clothes were fitting better, and it just seemed like I looked a little better in the mirror.
I'm going to give this another go next month right before my vacation to see if I can drop a few lbs again. Until then, I'm running 2 miles a day about 4 days a week with a few workouts in there as well. Hopefully, I can stay disciplined this time and control my eating after I get off. A buddy of mine who stopped the fast still juices once or twice a day with his meals. He seems to be keeping the weight off much better than I did.

I got my wife to try it with me. After the 10 day and we are building up to a real juice fast.
We are juicing 2 meals a day and having a nutrient dense meal in the evening.
No meat, No Dairy, No alcohol, No refined sugars or flour.
I have to say that I have never felt so good. I am about 30 lbs lighter, exercise is actually invigorating not physically draining (that is a big one), and my energy is off the charts.
We are taking the weekend off of the diet for the holidays as we are going to my Mother's house, but we decided that we are going to try a 31 day juice fast in January.

Don't believe everything you read without first digging deeper into the conclusions. The China Study is wrong when it comes to meat consumption. Meat is good for you. Remember the author is a vegetarian and uses plenty of confirmation bias and bad science in the book. Correlation does not prove causation and this book has tons of these types of conclusions. Read this critique of the China Study:

Good read Sharp, I am definitely not "Dogmatic" about this, I just think that there are benefits to a plant based diet, I have personally noted some changes in my overall health and mood that I attribute to the change. By no means am I giving up meat or cheese or anything. I do not want to become one of "those" people, but for the time being I am enjoying shedding the pounds and feeling like a million bucks.

I have 20-25 lbs sitting in my gut. My cardiologist has been begging me for 2 years to shave it off. I must admit I have been lazy. I am inspired by your posts regarding juicing. I got a juicer as a gift a year ago and it sits sealed in the box. I am going to start Jan 2nd juicing.
Would you kindly share some recipes and detailed tips for me. Happy Holidays and much appreciated.
