If you guys are ever in Texas, give this place a shot...
 
 
 
They have 2 inch pork chops that you can cut with a butter knife.. This is an old fashioned place that you eat off of wax paper-- no plates are allowed...
 
 
APACHE --  you are from Texas, have you been here ?
 
 
Me and the wife make a road trip once a month to this place.. The food is to die for.. Well worth any trip... You can also order the meat online...

also this is an open grill restaurant--- where you walk up to the grill and pick anything you want.. They charge by the pound...

The ribs are very good... When Bush is (was) he comes to Coopers alot and gets the ribs...  Im not to big on the ribs (not enough meat) but the few times Ive ate them, they were good...
 
The pork chop is the way to go...  I always buy a few extras so I can grill them on the weekends... They are really hard to cook because of the thickness.. I dont know how they do it but they cook them just right..  I can cook them but sometimes I overdue it... I guess they smoke them and I don't have a smoker yet...  Hopefully I get one for Fathers Day ... Ive been asking for one...

"Open Grill" is an understatement..... they got smokers basically in the parking lot.
 
As of right now, Coopers is by far my favorite Texas BBQ place

Was in Austin for a wedding a year ago and ended up at Coopers talking to the manager about the Food Network because it was on their TV at the time.  You wouldn't think it but the manager's favorite TV food guy was Alton Brown.  Seemed kinda strange for a place like that.

Went to school in Austin.  All my buddies have ranches around Fredericksburg.  I was in a wedding a year ago and I don't think my date ever came back.  She's probably still there, she liked it so much.

The deer are small but they are abundant.

It's like traveling in time out there.  Time just stops.  I got buddies there right now for spring break.  They are probably sitting on a porch thinking about who's gonna be the designated driver to hit coopers !!!!!

Speaking of TX cue, I dashed into a Rudy's a while back.  The place was a little gimmicky but I remember enjoying the shit out of some perfectly cooked brisket.
 
How much time you spend in the Austin area?
 
I could talk at length about ACC golf stories.  Some crazy peeps blow through that place.

I dated a girl from UT... So I would go down there alot... Here father was a big wig and they owned a house on Lake Travis...  Very nice lake and good for the parties

BBQ is an addiction.  I just pulled pork ribs off the grill fifteen minutes ago and about to simmer them down in some diluted sauce.  There are fancy tenderloin shishkababs already cooked and lying around but I'm not interested in that crap and holding out for the ribs.
 
My blood content is 10% barbecue sauce.

UT and Tech are my favorites... Im a big an of TECH because of Graham  Harrell... He has left now but he is a family friend .. Him and my cousin live together... As a matter of fact, Graham's agent sent him to Vegas this weekend.. My cousin and brother in law all went...
 
Havent been to Austin since The last time Tech played there, when Graham played them....

But good BBQ you don't need sauce... I will lightly rub BBQ sauce on good meat.. If its not so hot, I will drown it in sauce....

Small world.  Got lotsa friends in Lubbock.  Hell of a long road trip from Austin though.
 
I thought Red Raiders were gonna go all the way this year at some point.  Harrell and Crab are the real deals.  I think they prefer turf over grass though.  This is a dumb question but I don't see them talking about Harrell in the draft convos.  All this Stafford crap is crazy.  Harrell has THE quickest release in the business.
 
When in college, we didn't hit sixth street too much.  Too busy on campus but we hit the sidestreets when I go back.  Those bars there blow away anything here in Atlanta.  That speakeasy place is cool. 
 
Lake Travis is cooler than shit.  We used to go cliff diving off the limestone cliffs.  In school (back in the 80s) before Austin took off, we could go from classroom to wet slip at Lake Austin in like five minutes.  They give you 15 minutes "travel" time to get to the next classroom and we'd just end up at the lake.

It's just physically impossible to go to school in Austin and pass classes.

Since this is a food thread, this kinda ties in.  I needed an easy A or B so took a "nutrition" class.  The hardest freaking class ever invented.  They are dissecting molecules and discussing anaeoribic biology and screwed up my whole semester
 
The EZ major was radio, television, and film.  Open book tests but you still had to show up

His agent is telling him 4 through 6 (rounds)... I tell you one thing though, whoever gets him will be real happy.. This kid can flat ass play.  Im not saying that because he is like family or anything but its the truth...

We were throwing the ball around a few weeks ago and man its just impresive to see the arm strength.. 70 to 80 yrds in the air easy (maybe more).. We were throwing in the road so its hard to tell but man he can chunk that ball.. Accurate as hell also... Plus he is a good kid.. I dont think he has drank a beer in his life...
