i've decided to start a strict detox regimen for 30 days starting monday (after taking the kids to get ice cream on sunday ).

this is not anything related to alcohol or drugs, although you can't drink on this program (and i certainly have done my share of drugs and alcohol, but mostly years ago).  this is more related to the chemicals, pesticides and other shit that builds up in our bodies as a result of what we eat/drink.  also, i want to see if i have any food allergies or irritants, like tomatoes.  finally, i want to see if this strict, organic diet for 30 days has any noticeable impact on the way i feel generally, my training, my concentration or anything else.

i generally eat pretty well but i'm far from perfect.  this is not a weight loss program although i'm sure i will lose some weight.

if anyone is interested, i'll let you know what i'm doing and what the results are.

Ur gonna tackle all those pesticides and shit too?

    Is that even possible?

here's the book i'm following for this.  i saw it in a health food magazine i read.

basically it drew my attention because i feel like i have more inflammation in my body than i should.  i have back/neck pain that comes and goes.  i exercise and i stretch and that helps but it always comes back. and i generally don't feel as good as i should physically and mentally.  i wonder if food/toxins are the problem.  this guy talks about all of the toxins that build up from drinking water and eating food that is not organic, has pesticides, hormones, etc. which have a negative effect on health.  seems to make sense.

sharp, it looks like it's going to be tough for me, a pretty significant change.  basically, he recommends a shake every morning with brown rice, pea or artichoke protein powder (i didn''t even know these existed but they have brown rice protein powder at my health food store so i'll be using that), ground flaxseed (i've cut this out but i'll bring it back for 30 days), lecithin, cinnamon and water.  for those of us not really trying to lose weight, he said we can add half a cup of organic berries, which i will.

for lunch, the shake and an organic salad but he doesn't want us to put much on the salad.  one or two of- celery, beets, broccoli, cauliflower (luckily) avocado, radish, and many other options.

a snack would be a cup of vegetables or certain fruits like berries, apple or pear.

for dinner, usually a salad with free range, no hormone chicken or turkey or certain fish (that are not as susceptible to storing mercury) and he does give the green light grass fed beef which will be helpful.

there are a lot of things you can't eat- nightshades, obviously sugar, and just about any carb outside of what you get from fruit and vegetables.

as far as drinking, just water and no/low caffeine tea.  i rpetty much do that anyway except for coconut water and some alcohol on the weekends.

for those looking to add calories, carrots, artichokes, squash, sweet potatoes are ok.

there are a lot more do's and don't's, too many to list.  you probably know most of them but if you have a question, i'll check the book and look it up.

yes, i still plan to train and exercise as much as before.  hopefully, that works.  i have two races scheduled in the next month.  we'll see how that goes.

fried, i'd rather not have this coincide with the beginning of football season but the next 30 days is really the best window for me.  i have no idea if you can rid yourself of all of the toxins with the program or not, but i can do anything for 30 days so we'll see how it works.

Organic pea powder?..... Artichoke powder?...... Huh?..... No way dude, this is impossible. Be fun watching you try this though. I couldn't go 45 minutes on that diet.

Curios tho.... Over / under 36 hours!

fried, i don't know that one protein powder is going to be much better tasting than another when mixed with other stuff unless they add sugar to it.  we'll see.  my problem is that i'm just not sure i'm going to get enough calroies with this and there may be days when i don't have access to the food i need.

i'm pretty disciplined when i want to be.  i think i can do just about anything for 30 days.  most things that people find uncomfortable or difficult are all in one's head.  but i'll tell you if i don't make it or slip up along the way.

My main concern is that you may be constantly hungry on this program.

yeah, i'm not concerned about having to eat any particular foods for 30 days but i don't see how i'm not going to be starving a lot, at least during the day.

only 28.5 days to go, fried.

the shake is not too good.  i overestimated the taste of the brown rice protein powder.  it says it is vanilla falvor.  i don't see it.  it tastes like powder brown rice flavor to me.  something else is fucking up the taste of the shake as well.  i think it's the lecithin.  i add a little vamilla extract and organic cinnamon but i'm not ure it helps much.  other than that, it's not too bad.  shake for breakfast.  shake and small salad with celery yesterday *carrots today) and dinner is pretty normal- one meat such as wild caught snapper or tilapia, free range chicken or grass fed beef and then a vegetable or two.  then nothing else after that.

so far, i haven't been too hungry.  but it might just be my new diet adrenaline, for lack of a better phrase.  i am going in for a workout after work today so we'll see what that does.  i have a race on 9/4, almost halfway into the diet.  that might be difficult.

the worst part looks like it will be two a days with this shake.  time will tell.

    tomatoes

i bet the pea powder is better than the brown rice powder.  i couldn't find it though.

gravy probably would improve this shake.

drinking some straight up ginger tea right now.
