Ignore those 'old school' articles you read in Muscle and Fiction type magazines about bodybuilders embarking on ridiculous off-season bulk ups where they eat anything and everything in sight .. It's a recipe that'll turn you into a fat ass ....
I've been there and done it - added 10+ kg (22+ pounds) over the course of 9 months or so on "bulk ups" and while I naturally felt a bit stronger in the gym, I looked soft and my bf% ballooned to 22%
Wasn't until a couple of years ago I started working with a top natural bodybuilder that I totally transformed my approach. I went to this guy expecting him to put me on programs and nutrition plans that would help me get bigger, but instead he put me on a bodyfat reduction regimen with a view to getting my bodyfat down to 10% ... That experience completely opened my eyes in terms of what should go in your mouth and when.
Within 9 months I'd reduced my bf% to that target number (lost about 8kg in doing so and most of my muscle measurements remained pretty much identical to when I was heavier and bulking (bicep, thighs, chest etc) ... But the real kicker was I actually LOOKED bigger because I was so much leaner and everything stood out .. I also felt so much healthier and tighter / more functional.
So the moral of this story - I think you would be far better served reducing your bodyfat levels dramatically in the first instance to around 12-15% or lower if you can .... If you can do that, I wouldn't mind betting that you'd be so impressed with your appearance that you wouldn't even want to bulk up ... However if you do, it's simply a case of slowly adding slight increases to your daily calorie intake .. that might be as simple as adding two or three servings of brown rice per day or another slow digesting carb and or 'good' fat source ...
Forget about the junk food dirty bulking bullshit .... you won't get big like a horse, you'll get fat like a pig
interesting!! Cheers J-Turk
So you put on an average of about 1kg per month? is this typical for most people when they are bulking? i want to be biggerr, not huge but just bigger than what i am as i have really gotten abit to lean. I am short and slim. I weighed about 57kg before i started bulking over a month ago. If i put on 3 or 4kg's? would that be noticable?
It turns out i'm a hard gainer. i am naturally slim build, was skinny all throughout high school. almost been 2 months now of trying to put on weight and bulk. I may have put on something like 1kg
(i'll weigh myself again in the morning and post it here).
I'm eating so much that i seem to be always full from the moment i wake up to when i go to bed lol. I tell ya what though my gut is getting big again.
On top of all the carbs and weight gaining foods i also purchased a weight gainer supp to help me along the way. On my 2nd week on it.
I'm going to continue a 3rd month and go nuts and then most likely end it at 3 months. We'll see how i go.
