A friend of mine (actually of my brothers) got majorly into Crossfit years ago. It led him to Columbia where he trains people. Anyway he has always told me to quit my old school lifting and give in. Always thought it sounded lame and I wanted to be strong, not get to where I can wear skinny jeans. Then I saw the Crossfit games and realized those dudes were jacked and in unreal shape. I spent a good 10 hours researching over the weekend. Started Monday. Well technically I started a 3 week routine that will get me where I need to be to really start ramping it up.
It's been killing me but I absolutely love it. Full body exercises, all in a row, then a quick break, then the circuit again. Using entire muscle groups I haven't touched in a decade. I just finished today's and am too tired to type the current routines out, but will tonight after softball or tomorrow.
I have high hopes and think in 3-4 months I'll start seeing breakthroughs. I hit a wall 2 years ago in my lifting and NEVER found a way to get past it physically. This will be it.

i have some good friends who do it religiously. i usually follow their path when they come up with something like this but i haven't done it. i quit lifting weights in 2005 and have had no desire to start back up.

Not up on Crossfit specifics but the full body type exercises are real excercise compared to most amateur type weight lifting.
Haven't been near any weights in 4-5 months but do pullups/pushups/track work/calethsenics and extremely pleased with that as a routine. The past several years have been mixing up workout routines every couple months but been on this routine for close to a year. For one, it's quick and easy.

Don't get lifting by itself at all. Cannnot even imagine an exercise program not involving sprinting. Worst case is it will lean you up but I don't think will see a drop off in muscle strength even if eliminate weights altogether. My goal is to lift for 30 days twice a year. And lifted around 5 months ago but havn't touched a weight room since.

we ran the crossfit games out here in canada east. absolute craze going on about crossfits. guys/girls who do it are super religious about the whole thing. Any exercise/event that uses only body weight is my biggest strength. I killed it in handstand pushups and single leg squats. I personally think it's all good until someone gets hurt and sues the pants off a facility. it's only a matter of time.....the fitness industry seems to be heading into athletic development centers (crossfit/circuit training with artificial turf for explosive running)
i qualified for the region games here in canada but i declined to go. im just doing it for fun and I was paid by my work to be apart of this (i am in commercial sales for a fitness equipment company).
if you get a chance go watch the games at the home depot center. Espn will also televise the event.

After a couple weeks I can tell you it is absolutely doing what I wanted it to do. I needed something to shock my muscles and BLAST through this wall I have been experiencing.
The WODs are 10x harder than what 99% of the what I see from people at the gym (5 reps 10 minutes rest talking to dudes).
Not saying it's the end all be all, but I am also incorporating swimming and a better diet, as well as continuing to lift like I have before, and I am on my way.

I have been struggling during the workouts with heavy pullup portions. People have told me it'll get better over time and I hear them talking about how many they do.
Then I realize they are all doing "kipping pullups". This is box shit. I am a grown man doing grown man shit. Kipping pullups aren't remotely close to pullups and should be for girls who can't do a real one.
I am going to voice that opinion next chance I get. I am sure I will be told I don't get crossfit or understand their goals!
