Was 178 about a month ago...down to 171...eating great, working out (mostly weights wise) 4 times a week. I have a health/phys ed background so I am well versed in nutrition/working out etc, the whole nine. Last year, I went from about 175 to 150 in roughly 2.5 months. I know most will say its not so healthy, but i know my body and i was fine. I was counting my calories, cut out bull shit etc.
THe first week I went from 178 to about 172...all things normal, some water weight for sure, but I know my body. Then since then, Ive lost 1 measily pound and it makes no sense. My diet is virtually the same as it was last year at this time when I got down to 150. WHile I know one can always do more (add more cardio) I just dont understand how I actually gained weight ina week where my diet was near impecable.
I spoke to a buddy of mine who has a Phys ed/trainer background and is probably the most fit person I know, and even he is confused. Im 29 now, and sure my metabolism isnt quite as fast as it was when I was say 18, but in 1 year I shouldnt plateau at 171 and the year before 150. Makes no sense. zero in fact.
I know people will say ok do more cardio, or totally cut out liquor (Ive proabbly drank 4-5 times none into oblivion (maybe 4-5 drinks)) and what not, but that isnt even the full reason here because like I said this is the same diet as last year...what is going on...im confused and i know my shit when it comes to this. Im wondering if I should see a dr, maybe to see if something is wrong???

I was eating shit like wings, fried this and that...eating 1/2 bag doritos etc...I went from most days of 3-3.5k calories to Id say 1500-1700 calories right now...IF that...all i drink is water.
the 4-5 times in a month Ive had alcohol...its kettle and club...cant get much healtheir than that in terms of liquor...i dont eat fried foods anymore, and like I said my calorie count is in HALF! I dont eat past 7pm on virtually every night and my diet is very rich in fiber, whole grains etc...and i eat small portions the whole nine...something is wrong here...

The only thing I can figure is that you're in a transition between putting on some muscle & losing some fat. I know when I lay off for a while & start back up, I tend to drop a few lbs. right off the bat, then plateau for about 4-8 weeks (depending on my regiment). Then the lbs. start dropping off. But I generally don't reduce my caloric intake drastically.......just try to cut out sugar & other crap.
How are your clothes fitting? This can be a better indicator of what's going on than the bathroom scale........

I'm thinking its metabolism. I'm experiencing the same right now. I'm
finding it harder to control my weight. I'm 210 now, up a few pounds
from months ago. A year ago I could lose it and get as low as 190 no problem, its just that now the tricks that used to work aren't effective anymore.

MUGG- I agree with you I probably have thrown on a few lbs (2-3) of muscle in the last month, and yes the clothes are fitting better, but like I said i lost 7-8 lbs. couple shirts and pants that werent so friendly fitting are at least friendly now, but at the same time, there are other clothes than I still dont come close in
2169- I agree metabolism has to play a role here, but there is no reason for it to be this drastic...?

Hit me at 33 years. Went from 185 ish to 210 almost intstantly. Was even running during that time frame but the diet was not nearly as good as it is now.
Got paranoid and went and had a full physical. Doctor said it was old age metabolism.
Today back down to 180. Exercise about the same as back then but the diet is much, much, much better.

3,000+ calories possibly seems a tad high if trying to reduce. Most gyms have a metabolic calorie tester to see how many calories you burn in a day. Not sure how accurate they are but it would be a good starting point.
Breathe in a tube for 15 minutes and it measure the oxygen spent which is correlated to metabolism.

You are not getting enough protein and losing muscle.
As far as diets........... Fried eats a stick of butter every day and fat out the ass. And drinks like a fish but the carbs are "watched" when need to lose a few. Still eat carbs and tortilla chips, just portion control.
90% chance it's a protein issue.

Everything you said triple im doing...i dont drink anything but water.
No, I didnt put on 20 since then...I was 150 in early June of last year, and probably put on 10-13 back, which was fine, 150 was probably unhealthy for me...
then I got up to 178 as recently as a month ago, but lost about 7-8 since.
I jumped back into cardio...going to see how that goes.
Bottom line is, my body was able to do it last year, and this year it is beyond a struggle....metabolism shouldnt fade this fast!
