Just stupid advice. Bet 500 bucks 4 places with 3 of them being worse lines than the best line of the 4? To spread around 2k?

To put it simply, because I think you might have trouble understanding this - a nickel in 4 places means 3 of those 4 places you paid too much.
Unless all 4 lines are exactly the same - at which time there IS NO ADVANTAGE and would be extremely rare - you have overpaid on 3 of your 4 bets.
A nickel at 4 places is better than 2 dimes at one.
From what I've seen... he sucks. Bad! I once paid $100 for a year of picks from him and about six other handicappers. He was terrible.
