This is correct, generally speaking. One could probably get 5 down on a World Cup game, but not a regular season Man United game. You can 5k or more down on just about any major sport, but what I mean about being creative is what vanzack just said - that requires having runners and/or spreading your money around to several books. But, if you have to do that, what's the point if you have an offshore account.
Like I said, the big guys I know bet offshore and the local sportsbooks. And I know personally and have met quite a few - I know, it's hard to fathom that there are real live people outside of covers that bet on sports - and some for a living, oh my.
Again, I'm just a semi-regular guy that likes to bet sports and play poker. Vegas is perfect for that. Along with those things, you get all the other perks, as well as the negatives too. But believe me, you head west away from the strip/downtown/north Vegas/near east Vegas (have I missed any neighborhoods, lol) it's the same as any other nicer nieghborhoods in any city. I looked into moving somewhere else in Nevada too. I had a job interview in Reno before settling here, no thanks.

Hard to argue with any of this...
I might not be exactly saying what I mean to - I guess what I am trying to say is not that there are no pro's in vegas - I will take your word for it that there are - its that I dont understand how there are pros in vegas. I make money betting sports by squeezing every penny. Im the guy who shops at walmart and shake my head at those shopping at specialty stores for the same toilet paper Im buying and pay double. Sure, you can bet in vegas and get the same product, with more hassle, and pay triple, but I dont understand it.
I also dont see how you can be profitable longterm with that model. I guess you can be - but I dont see how - and I am certainly not good enough to do it - I need offshore to be profitable and survive.
I dont know much about poker but I assume you pay more of a rake to sit at a table in LV than you would online. Is it worth it? You say it is for you, because of the social outlet - but you are paying something for that. Just like sportsbetting. If your goal is strictly to make a profit, Im just not convinced that vegas as a tool adds anything to your toolbelt, other than a weight.
But I could be wrong on all of this, I stay open minded, these are just my opinions.

Oh, wait, covers.com is "sports with a vegas edge"
Well, I understand, you've got to cover all the angles. Wouldn't want some young college kid who's all about Vegas and everything it offers to an impressionable lad, stumbling onto your website only to discover it's all about offshore gambling, complete with offshore ambassadors combing the message boards...now would we? lol
