I know what you're saying about Korean cars you just can't compare them to the more superior Japanese cars but they are taking more and more sales away from Japanese,European & American brands each year.
Even though they're fairly dull and uninspiring, their build quality isn't too bad,they have good extended warranties and prices are generally cheaper as well.

Hyundai have even tried to take on Lexus and Mercedes with this little beauty  , a budget luxury car

in the US during the mid 90's the biggest rivalry was the redwings vs the avalanche. i am not a huge hockey fan, but i remember seeing some of the epic brawls on sportscenter highlights.
