I've all my life searched for the perfect cup of coffee and I have more time on my hands now so I started making my morning coffee manually. I put a brown coffee filter over a strainer (sieve) and then put the strainer over my coffee mug. Then, I grind the beans and put the grounds into the filter. Then, I boil water in a saucepan and slowly pour the hot water over the grounds and let it seep through the strainer and into the mug. I know some will say that boiling water is too hot and will harm the taste but I haven't found that to be the case. My coffee is now WAY better. The hotter water makes it stronger, but the main reason is because unless you are ocd about cleaning your coffeemaker then the device is probably filthy and the residue is causing a bitter taste and worse. My coffee now is fresh and strong. Try it yourself. You won't be disappointed. Better than Starbucks. Here is an article about dirty coffeemakers:
