Pulling up a red snapper is like pulling up dead weight until the fish sees the boat & tries to take off again. That's why you want to gaff the fish ASAP.

Actually that goes for almost every fish but I rather not use the gaff if I don't have to. We practice pictures/catch & release unless friends on the boat want fish for dinner.

 Like everywhere Freddie, it's been hot hot hot!

Surprisingly, fishing has been pretty good & the ocean has been calm which makes it easier to find the weed lines without looking for birds. Last Friday just about a mile offshore, we caught 7 yellowtail & a cuda. We kept 4 of the yellowtail for a fellow vet who loves fresh fish & chopped up the barracuda that we'll use for swordfish bait when the winds are coming from the northwest.

We only go out for 2 or 3 hours in the morning because of the heat & are usually back by noon.
