3-5 college students? Thats your plan?
First week, 2 win 500 bucks each, and one lose 1500. The one that loses cant pay. You cant find him. You finally find him but he just wont pay.
College students? 3-5 of them? You better stick to your homework.

Let me explain the concept of being a bookie - SIZE MATTERS.
Size does several things for you - it diversifies your client base, spreads out volatility, and is a form of self insurance against defaults (stiffs).
With only 5 people, if one goes bad - you could get killed.
If you have never done this, if you have no experience doing this, if you dont know how to move lines and calculate your exposure, if you dont know how to collect from people that dont want to pay you - dont do this. Would you do surgery tomorrow because you thought performing an appendectomy would be easy money?

for the sake of argument if you're serious, why would you want to start with college students with no real income and all the time in the world to keep track of their fave teams?

my buddy just started last year and started with 5 people he set a limit of 100$ to make sure shit didnt get out of hand...now hes got 15 and does fine....its important for you to have a bookie as well in case you just want to push some shit through to him.
and sorry you weren't born into a family of crime

The local I played with back in the 90's had to be paid first before he would take plays.
He disappeared after the Steelers beat The Seahawks in the superbowl.

it may look easy, but you will have bad weeks where everyone wins w/ the favorites, and then it seems in those weeks everyone that lost will stiff you. Some guys when they win want to get paid right away on Monday, then they lose the next week and you can't find 'em. If you take say $10K in action a week total then be prepared to lose $5-8 K in a week as it can and will happen. Most weeks you win but collecting is usually a bitch too.
So you need some serious money behind you, and best thing you can do is only take customers that have money, and that are honorable, or if they were referred to you by someone you really know and trust. If a player likes to gamble at a casino, like poker or blackjack, either keep his limits really low or don't even bother, because if a guy is going to gamble on cards 5 days a week, he won't likely have money to pay you - this is some of the best advice I got from a long time bookie.
It is better for a guy getting into this if he is retired with some really good savings, say in his 50's, w/out young kids, w/out a young whining wifey, as this line of work is not necessarily conducive to a happy home life.
