Hi gang. Football almost here!!!! Anyway, find myself frequenting the buffets tooo often. Kids free since they're young and we fill em up for day pretty much. Selection great as well and crunched numbers and cheaper than ala carte. Problem is I just can't control myself and I gorge myself!!! I stopped desserts but still too much and feel terrible after! Went to a new China buffet yesterday and they had roast duck so gorged myself with that. Also has a pho soup, multiple plates of sushi, ribs, chicken broccoli, corn, house special fried rice, sesame chicken, omg tooo much. Wife said she thought I went overboard and kept getting plate after plate! It was ridiculous, I lost control, and felt horrible for much of the evening afterwards!! Anyone have this problem? Recommendations? Feedback?

As you are a part of this degenerate group, you know that Life is like Gambling.
You sir, are betting "outside of your limits" We all have budgets, be they monetary or caloric
However, like gambling, you have recognized you have a problem doing too much of something
We will need to have more information before we can proceed.
How much weight have you gained?
Were you a big fat*ss to start with?
Do you have/had an exercise program?
Have you noticed any change in any other numbers? Pace? Distance? Heartrate?
I'm just assuming by your moniker and avatar that you actually are a diver. I've never seen a fat surfer, so, I'm just guessing you're in decent shape, and have above average breath-control/wind.
I'm watching the British Open with my laptop and my beer, so get back to me soon, and Doc Hawk can render an opionion

For most people, nothing wrong with eating at buffet restaurants. If overeating is a problem, there are ways to minimize it. For example, avoid drinks until late in the meal. Take just a small sample of every dish. Limit selection by avoiding some foods. Give excess food to companions. End meal at time deadline or when you feel full.

Morbidly obese people ruin buffets for me. I can't help but notice these fat phucks stuffing their fat faces; whether it's direct or through my peripheral.
For some reason, I lose my appetite watching really big fat phucks eat.
I feel you though Diver. I can put down a lot when I'm at buffets when the Fatties aren't around. It's all meat for me

I hate seeing morbidly obese people riding the motorized carts in stores, especially when they're buying all junk food. I feel bad for them on one hand but on the other hand I don't. Put the cookies back. Eat a carrot.
TIME TO BRING BACK THE OBAMA CAGES!

Hi all and Ty very much for your concern; Hawk, I've gained about 10 pounds since I've been on my buffet rampage in last month or 2. My wife pushing me there for our 15 month old who is eating solids and wife loves to give him various types of food the buffet has. I am now 250 lbs and am 6'5 .been working out consistently since high school so I have high % muscle mass just same I should lose 20 pounds and too much stress on heart. I used to do a good bit of cardio but in last few months not as much. Will get back into it. My wife and I had serious talk and the plan is buffet once a week but like with any addiction these plans are hard to keep to. Lord give me strength and I'm praying! I know these seems funny and that video is hilarious but for me it's not funny anymore and figuratively speaking I feel like the buffet is Now consuming me!!!! :-(....

DiverRon - there's actually a name for your "syndrome" - Overchoice
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overchoice
Basically, you're presented with so many choices, you experience anxiety and a fear that you'll choose the "wrong thing" or not enough of what you want.
Personally, I've always viewed buffets as more of a type of "feeding trough" as opposed to a pleasurable dining experience, so I usually avoid them at all costs - with the exception of the Vegas casinos if I get comped or 2-for-1 deals. But even then, you should approach it like I do:
Treat it just like a dinner out. Start with a soup or salad (not both), or maybe an "appetizer" like for instance, get 8-10 jumbo shrimp, and some of the cocktail sauce, BANG! Shrimp cocktail. Then pick one theme and make one plate. Is there a carving station? Prime rib, mashed potatoes, vegetable side, roll..... DONE. Finish it off with something from the dessert tray, and be able to look at yourself in the mirror the next morning.
If you can't do that, you need to avoid buffets altogether.
Good Luck!

To me the buffet is not only a matter of overchoice as Money Now explains above, but the overvalue mentality as well. Who walks into a buffet and says "I'm just not very hungry, but I'll pay the price and nibble on a salad?" No, it's always the "How much food can I eat at the given price to come out a winner financially." You get to the point that if you're not over consuming, you're letting the place get the better end of the deal. It's somewhere between greed and gluttony. Buffets are not a good choice for people with self control issues.

I go to the las vegas seafood buffet here in Ca and eat sushi until my heart rate climbs to about 90. I don't even drink water because it interferes with the shoveling process.
I have issues.

Exactly the one Flop. I even arrive early for the 11 30 lunch plow fest so I get my table next to the sushi bar, there's a luxurious crapper right down the hall too so if the sudden gastronomic alert flashes I can get there in a hurry.
We have to go together and eat. I think we'll both help each other eat less than 4 plates of sushi rolls.
The old torrance one sounds good, never have been there. but I'm always up for a new trough.
Diver you're good. Just swim some laps after the pork fest. I did that at my gym and I'm pretty sure I momentarily blacked out a couple of times.

Good news is, cardio will keep you going. 20 lbs should be nothing with your high metabolism. As noted above, clean your plate, just make sure it's only one plate. I really don't think you have an addiction, just human nature.
What's better than a beer?
You're damn right. THE NEXT BEER.
That's the thing. Like gambling, YOU CAN DO TOO MUCH.
There are many vices in life Too much
smoking
drinking
lying
over extending yourself
television
online................whatever
even exercise
You've recognised the problem, that's the first step. The next involves your dedication and will to know what is best for you.
My ex-wife sent me a photo of her 9 year chip. It's a chip you get in AA when you've gone 9 years without a drink. I'm sure it takes a lot of mental well-being to accomplish this.
Start with 9 hours. Then 9 days. Increase as needed until YOU think things are better. You've involved your wife, which is what every many with a brain should do. Studies show that you will have a 40% better chance if you involve someone else.
Home cookin'-there's a reason it's so good

Hawk is 100% correct. If you want to lose weight, you should literally almost never eat out (unless you live some place like LA where there are healthy options). Most places, even the veggies will have a ton of butter/oil and salt.
Learn to count calories and keep yourself below 2000/day. To lose weight, you should be more like 1500/day. This will seem impossible at first but it can be done. Stop eating desserts, fried foods, excessive carbs, fatty meats, butter, huge portion sizes, and excessive snacking.
Get some exercise - cardio + weights. But don't think you can gorge yourself just because you got a little exercise.
Good luck. If you drop 30 pounds, you will feel like a new man.
