That nicotine gum is pretty strong..but you're supposed to tuck it away maybe that would help once in awhile?

My wife was addicted to methadone (opiate). Had it under control as far as I knew. Got really bad, wrecked both of our cars, also drinking on it to sleep. Found out she was taking 10 a day. With the help of her parents, we threw her behind into a 7 day detox. She's now on her 50th day of sobriety. I guess my moral of the story is if a 5'2, 105 pound chick could beat that, you can beat this nicotine addiction.

Impossible, quit for 5 days now I'm drinking some beers and had to pick up some smokes

This works for some.  I just kind of tapered off and quit myself, but it's not that easy for some. 

You can also get some "fake" chew and mix it with some regular chew.....then just add less and less "real" chew to the mix.  You get your oral fixation and a gradual nicotine let down.  You have to retrain your body and brain....no way around it.

I used to DIE if I didn't have a chew at a sporting event (or even watching one on TV).  I went to Talladega this year and didn't even crave a chew during the WHOLE weekend.  

Another approach is to buy 2 cans and say, "this is it for the week," and force yourself to plan accordingly.  Maybe tell yourself, "I can have one chew after lunch and one after dinner."  It's amazing how you can limit yourself if you know you have a "reward" waiting for you later on that day.

And GET busy.  Sitting around thinking about it doesn't help.  Whether it's a bit of exercise....reading.....another hobby....anything to keep you occupied helps.

Search---you got it buddy! BOL  one day at a time. I know that's the theme in AA and it's probably applicable to this addiction too.

The governmen wants you to have that chew, they want you to be addicted to "their" nicotine. Then they can suck your money out of you day by day . Think of that all day and it might help.. Just think of them picking your pockets everyday and you are killing yourself at the same time...Then you have to purchase Obama Care to goto the doctor.. See its just one big cycle to get every dime out of you ...lol

^They also make billions off tobacco products--1/2 of the cost is from taxes.

I have a small desire to quit but not so sure I care anymore since my Dad died and my wife left. Hey Search Warrant how have you been?

My dad and brother died too. Figured it's time to quit for me.

Doing ok, daily hack...you know. The quit chewing project is like a bad mushroom trip. I avoid talking to people because rarely do I make any sense at all. Then my heart rate kicks up to about 115.

I went to a movie to kill some time. Ate 3 full boxes of sweet tarts and large bag of potato chips. Had zero effect on me and I never eat sugar or salt.

Tast Tatet 6 months ago... For the first month, I didn't quit but changed my habit. I changed when and where I smoked. It was annoying. I used to smoke in the car, so if I wanted a smoke I needed to pull over. I smoked after meals, so I either smoked right before I ate (gross on an empty stomach) or smoked in the front yard instead of the back yard.

Point is.. It's the addiction but also convenience. Attack the convenience for a while then the addiction.

Was hard for a few days but then said fuc*k it and never looked back.

I still love the smell and would love to have one. But it's a simple no now with no regret BC I can smell and taste.

I dipped atleast a can a day for for 8 years.

I picked a date about 2 months in advance and prepared my myself for it.

When my date came up I went to 3 dips a day like clock work for 2 weeks.  After 2 weeks my I was hurting but started to be able to go longer without massive cravings. After those 2 weeks I would go to 3 pouches (one at a time!) a day for two weeks.  After 2 weeks of 3 pouches a day I had weened myself away from the nicotine addiction and the habit that I was able to quit. 

Of all the ways to quit the common denominator is really wanting it for you and not for someone else IMO.

Hi Search...

I need to quit the dip myself.  It's every day all day for me lately.  Long cut straight... cheap stuff.  Sometimes Grizzly pouches.  Depends on the mood.  I'm really getting tired of it though.  I carry around a cup of spit for God's sake.  It's time to quit.

How have you been doing with it?

search - Have you tried Swedish Snus?
It's a low-nitrosamine smokeless tobacco similar to dip which has been shown in many studies to be much less harmful than traditional American smokeless tobacco because of the manufacturing process. Obviously quitting altogether is the best but if it doesn't work out you should look into it, I've been substituting snus for cigarettes on and off for a few years.

Cold turkey? Not for me to say. I know heroin addicts take one last shot before they go to rehab, which I don't understand.

PM me, whatever.

You HAVE to quit................whatever it takes.

I will alway be here for people that want to try. You put in a half-assed effort.....................so will I.....................

One thing I noticed...I've done 120 days in county jail twice..No cigarettes in jail and no withdrawal whatsoever..None.

But if I'm at a restaurant..I can't wait to get to my car to smoke..I'm fuking jonesing for some nicotine.

100% mental.

My aunt quit smoking when i was a kid.  She had a system where she would smoke a cig then put it in a jar that some liquid in it.  That jar became so foul smelling she wouldn't want to open it so she stopped smoking.

Of course, when we were visiting her house, I found the jar and opened it.  Since then, anything tobacco just makes me nauseous.
