Been to the Boston Marathon many times, been in Copley Square many times. Sickening that this would happen, but it was clearly a well thought out plan.
Red Sox game had just finished about 45 minutes earlier, and many of the fans head over from Fenway Park to the end of the Marathon.
First explosion was right at the finish line, and the attackers knew that they would not funnel people farther down Boylston St. as that is where a lot of the hospitality tents are located, and there isn't much room.
Second explosion was about 100 yards down the street in the direction most people were running. There was also several other bombs and suspicious packages found in the area, including one underneath the bleachers on the opposite side of the street.
There was also an explosion at JFK Library...which I would assume was meant to go off first, diverting much of the fire and police presence to that area...however it happened about an hour after the Boston Marathon instances.
As of now there are 3 dead and 10-15 in critical condition, about a dozen others in serious condition. I would expect about 10 fatalities in this.
Celtics and Bruins games have been cancelled...the entire city is still in shock. I hope we have quick and VIOLENT reaction to whoever is responsible for this. We don't have time for political correctness and diplomacy right now. This is send a message time. The hell with whatever sick fu.cks did this.

Also was watching the live coverage of the Boston news stations, and there were many of those gruesome images shown on live television. I was surprised there was not a plan in place to force the media members away from the immediate area.
Another major factor that added to the confusion is the fact that there are so many people from out of town in the city, and when streets are shut down it is very difficult for family members to find each other.

CM... as someone that is familiar with the landscape, area and set up of the city I agree with you that timing after a red sox game and detonating a second bomb where people would likely run to is really messed up...
Also with the large number of towners being in the mix, it adds to the chaos...
I have a relative who qualified for the boston marathon and I am still waiting to hear from him

Thanks for the concern. I'm in the Hartford, Ct area and OK. Been sitting on the sideline of this thread because I see no point in speculating about this tragedy until we have some concrete facts.

As someone who hails from Boston and obv the US it def pisses me off. People were asking why the marathon why Boston. Easy it's 'patriots day' in MA today a local holiday and the city will have a large concentration of people for the race.

found out my cousin is okay... he finished about an hour before the explosions... really scary to think about... thanks for you well wishes and positive energy in family's direction

Police searched an apartment in Revere, MA this morning of a Saudi resident. They interviewed his roommate Mohammed Bada and he seemed nervous and sketched out by the situation, not "knowing" very much.
Personally I believe that it had to have been a local who had knowledge of the Marathon route and where people would funnel after the first explosion.

The JFK library was not a bomb no relation to this , the apartment in Revere was probably a dead end , its so early in investigation they will be checking out leads that probably will prove to be a wild goose chase .
i think they eventually will get some kind of video or picture of the scum
