nothing too special. first, all the credit goes to MJ for pointing this out. normally, if you look at every inside info type thread on this site, and there are plenty, you won't see me posting in them. i'm sure there are a limited few people who do have info on games that are unknown to the books, but they aren't posting it for the world to see on covers. but i can see that being different for a high school game.
i've never bet a high school game before but when i saw the post, i thought it was worth further research. so i just googled the teams and the matchup and actually found 3 other articles about the game. each article supported mj's position that the line was ay too high- the favorite won it all last year but lost a lot of starters, the dog was 0-3 but those were all sort of exhibition games and this was the first district game that counted, the talent level was about equal, the coaches were talking like this was going to be a tight game. all that seemed to say the line was way off.
usually, when the line seems way off, it's the gambler who is wrong, not the books. but maybe not in a high school game. but i was still skeptical. so i called a guy i know who bets everything and knows high school sports very well, although not in texas. he confirmed that the books are often rong on these high school games. with that, i was satisfied this was a very good bet.
so, that was my handicapping and it all pointed to one conclusion.
i actually tried to look into the other high school bets but ran out of time. plus, i'm not sure high school football gets articles and news coverage in other states like it does in texas.
i don't want you to think i made a fortune on this play. i did have to get ohers invovled to risk what i wanted because 5dimes has low limits, but i believe in playing a small percentage of my bankroll on plays. i adjust it up or down based on the play sometimes, but i never get crried away no matter what.
thanks again to mj. these kinds of plays might be worth looking into each week as long as they are offered and we can find some decent reliable info. the one really invaluable advantage is that i guess you can get good info on some of them. i wouldn't cal it inside info as much as info the books haven't considered.
