There is no excuse that you could use to justify what these 2 did to the ref. This is our society trying to shift accountability of young people's actions to something other than themselves. This race thing or coach told me to do it is all BS. Even by the remote chance that any of their accusations are true, these 2 did it and there is no excuse. I still can't believe they would even remotely think this type of action was acceptable or that there wouldn't be any consequences for their actions.

Skew data, personally insult and attack, or in this case scour for grammatical errors as if people are supposed to post in A+ perfect English or they're wrong

this is Texas we're talking about...high school football is WAYYY up there. So I can't imagine a guy as tenured as this, with an absolute free-square of a job doing something so stupid to lose the gig.
I think it's clearly a case of misconduct and horrible, disgusting people on that staff that put a huge spot on these kids' names. What's next, the kid's saying "I didn't want to do it...but coach told me to." "He's a bully...."
This thing is already headed to the STATE
and there it is!!! on Espn's fancy little interview...
player 1: "i was like, do we really gotta do this?...coach said..."
player 2: "i was taught always do what you're told...and especially by your coach..."
when they get out of mean ol' alternative school, they should immediately proceed to Adult Daycare facilities. Diaper changes, spoon feeding, and jumbo coloring books...these dummies can't handle the real world.
And don't think for a minute that "alternative school" is any kind of punishment. The only thing these schools lack are sports teams and cheerleading squads. I remember three different people getting sent there while I was in high school (same district as these two). One brandished a switchblade in a fight, one assaulted a pregnant girl (another female), and the other was selling drugs.
They all made it back, and had "fun" stories to share. Videos all the time, no dress code, the campus was closer to fast food for off-campus lunch, etc. In fact, the only "punishment" was probably not being able to pass notes to your friends, since they were at another campus. Sickening to think that that senior will make it back, and be able to graduate with his friends. Still not over though: local media says there is another meeting in the morning...
