The "war on terror" is the same level of propaganda that Americans went through during the red scare and cold war. The idea that communism was bad is something that was pounded into minds for most of the last 100 years. Is it true? Not at all
The terrorists represent a fundamental sect of the Islam faith. To penalize the whole would be like labeling all Christians fanatics because of David Koresh's behavior.
Americans need to understand that the rest of the world just wants to be left alone. This desire to force feed our beliefs or ideals down others throats needs to stop. We have enough of our own issues to deal with.... and who are we to be telling other nations what to do.
Communism isn't a bad thing Sparty ??? Move to China ! The United States will and always be the greatest country in the World, don't ever forget that !
U.S.A !

You don't see China going to war everywhere - instead they invest and make business all over the planet from Australia to the freaking North Pole.
It's projected that China will have the biggest economy in the world by 2016.
Soon you will see Chinese sweat shops in California
Different ways to secure ressources - I think the Chinese method is the smartest.
Stop finding enemies and start making money.
Okay let me rephrase what I said then. To protect our current way of life we can't retreat back into an isolated society. China may very well have the biggest economy in my life time, but it does no good with the level of suffering the abundant lower class there faces or the destruction of the environment that is happening.
I'm not saying what we are doing is right. I'm just saying I relatively understand. We can either sit back and watch our interests in the world begin to diminish or we can be proactive and ensure we stay on top.

If you think the "war on terror" is or ever was perpetrated for your safety, then just do us all a favor and blow your brains out.
This was just a defense/oil industry cash cow to win Bush a 2nd presidency. This has truly been a dark age. Major media outlet have been corrupted into state propaganda disseminators. This is not my opinion. Rupert Murdoch said so himself.
I love the idiots that are still trying to justify their own ignorance and stupidity on the matter.
"Well Saddam was a bad guy"
"There were links between Saddam and Al Queda.....:"
our foreign policy isn't really to try and prevent these things but to invite these attacks. our military budget is around $700 billion. a lot of people get very rich when that money gets allocated and a lot of government gets job security with that kind of money. but we have to do something wiht that money so we have a foreign policy that intrudes into everyone's business and at some point people are going to kick back.
but i agree with silk, these events aren't catastrophes to our government, they are the cost of doing business. and when it's a $700 billion business, this is a cost our government is happy to pay.

i bet the families of our soliders still dying would like someone in washington to look into why we have soldiers dying every day in countries we have no business being in where we have no plan and are accomplishing noting while politicians and defense firms only get richer.
or does "support our troops" just mean put a support our troops bumper sticker on your car while our government keeps sending them to die for no reason. as long as we call them heroes it's ok to keep sending them to die without asking questions.

If I don't look at how much money has been spent I'm ok with it.
Anyone with a high school education can make a bomb. I'm actually surprised this sort of stuff doesn't happen more often. It can never fully be stopped from happening.
so you think it is possibly domestic?

You guys act like the soldiers there right now didn't know what was going on. We have been over there for how long now? I respect what they do greatly, but they are there by choice or have we had a draft recently I'm unaware of?

I don't have a clue of who is responsible for it. I'm just saying anyone with a high school education can make a bomb and the war on terror isn't going to stop it completely it probably prevents many more attacks, but cn't be stopped completely.

What's the unemployment rate for young men between 18-25?
It's not that black and white.

so because they signed up it's ok that they keep dying years after this ridiculous conflict started? and i wonder how many of them thought they were signing up to protect our country or fight terrorism. that may be what they signed upo for but it's not what they are doing? they are jjust perpetuating our bloated and misguided foreign policy where only two groups profit- our ever increasing government and the big companies that own it.

Okay, I'll start her up. It's time to get the phuck out of Afghanistan. This will never stop no matter how many of them we kill. Never.
It is out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it.
I heard an extremist group in jordan stated that they celebrated the bombings... they denied responsibility but stated that perhaps the USA will realize that there is no difference between the innocent blood spilled in the streets of boston vs the blood in Iraq/afghanistan...
I see it two ways...
1. perhaps the "War on Terror" against the "Axis of Evil" was actually an investment in increased terrorism later on and this was the point...
2. perhaps it is saying that the middle east in unrest due to extremist political/religious/cultural orientation results in the unrest in their area of the world... and now americans may be experiencing that same unrest by its own militant political/religious/cultural extremists....
either way I think they celebrate it being hard for us to look down our noses on other countries today

Bill, they did sign up. Go get ém and good luck - I'll watch.
Have no desire to sign up or I would have, but know many that have been over there and I hear more whining from civilians feeling bad for them then I hear anything out of them.

You can't really blame them either. I'm sure many in the world are celebrating this. It's sad, but not something that hasn't been happening since the beginning of time.

Celebrating the end of the war which is exactly what it should be.

I signed up just after 9/11 but long before Iraq was even a possibility. I was even on board with Iraq because I believed what I was being told without any questions. It was only after I started listening to both sides did I form the opinion that Iraq was a terrible waste of lives, money, and resources.
I was honorably discharged around the beginning of 2007. Not exactly a great time to become unemployed in America. Many people I served with didn't get out because there wasn't a plethora of jobs waiting for them and, unlike me, they had families to worry about.
So it's not exactly like everyone desires to be in the military or enlists/re-enlists to go to Iraq and do harm to people. Sometimes their choices are extremely limited.

Yea, I'm not trying to paint a picture that everyone wants to go over there for whatever reason. I'm just saying they knew there was a strong possibility they would end up over there at some point. Even you signing up after 9/11 knew something was going to go down and you had a chance being in the middle of it.
I mean absolutely no disrespect to anyone in the armed forces, if anything I commend them for knowing and still enlisting. I know I wouldn't sign up to go into a war zone half way across the world just not a chance. Although, if it was on US soil I wouldn't hesitate for a second.
I also understand the financial reasons people enlist, but that still is a choice and a risk they're obviously willing to take. People work in dangerous jobs all around the country on a daily basis.
This isn't Vietnam where people were forced into service. I wonder how many servicemen condone such behavior from civilians complaining that it's a useless war that can't be won all the while they are over there busting their fools with the belief they're making the world a better place to be an American.
Anyways, thank you for your service I'm sure it had a great effect on the person you have become today.

The war on terror is about supporting Israel more than anything which the Islamic extremist are hell bent on destroying. Public bombings have been going on over there for years.

Yes that is definitely one of the pieces of the puzzle.

I understand what you're saying. I just want people to understand that not everyone signed up to go to Iraq. I had no idea about Iraq when I enlisted. I was all for going to Afghanistan and getting the people that attacked America or supported those that did.
I didn't know this was going to be loosely and poorly attempted to be tied to Iraq so America would invade it with different motives. Had I known that was going to happen maybe I would have sought a different route in life. I think there would have been a much different attitude had a lot of people known that prior to enlisting. From what I have read Pat Tillman would have NEVER enlisted having known about Iraq.
Just making a point that not everyone knew what they were getting into as far as Iraq goes.

100% agree with you. Guys, this is all about MONEY. There are fortunes to be made during wars. Have you seen the movie Shooter? Yet, we keep voting in the same monsters year, after year, after year. This is partially our fault too.
