Many years ago my coworker wasn't even considered a promotion at the company when he was clearly the most qualified for the position. I can't remember who got the job or if it was even filled. He later left the company and started his own firm with a couple others and became a client of ours. How uncomfortable do you think management felt when they gave this dude the shaft and now became a client where management had to essentially suck his d*ck every time he called.
I know this story is not directly related to your situation but you'd be surprised how not getting one gig *could lead to something better down the road.
As the old adage goes... It is easier to find a job when you have one... And if you give it a bit of thought it does make sense...
Are you more likely to hire someone who is employed at a lesser job/position than they are trained for or have held OR someone who is unemployed and not willing to work beneath the position they consider appropriate for themselves??? Given the option of two candidates who would you pick...

Not true.
You have to bring your A game to the interview. You have to really sell yourself and tell them how your skills and abilities will add value to the company. Let them know you are excited about the job opportunity and really want to get back to work.
