I am a die-hard Celtics fan so I may be biased in my current opinion of Scalabrine, and look back on him as an absolute joke. But, for now, I have to say that Scalabrine is not the worst player in Celtics history. I cannot cite a specific person who is worse than him, but if I did some research I'm sure I could. Scalabrine brought alot of the intangibles to a 5-man team that are necessary for a championship caliber team. He wasn't out there to score or change the game in any significant fashion. His job was to go out there, work his ass off, and make the person he was guarding work their ass off as well. He was the hustle-guy every team needs to keep the flame lit during a game. He certainly isnt the Nate Robinson or Glen Davis type to spark a run off the bench, instead he was on the court to reliably give his all every play.
He certainly was not one of the best players on the team, but I honestly cannot say he didn't deserve a spot in the rotation. Doc Rivers knows what hes doing.

Gotta agree with Spit. Extremely dissapointed in the product that is the NBA. I would rather watch a college basketball game any day of the week than an NBA game. I still watch almost every Sixers game but to see a decent effort from all you gotta wait until the playoffs IMO.

Bruno Sundov in 2002-03 played in 26 games and had 32 points and 26 personal fouls...not a good combo. He was 0-2 from the FT line...and was an amazing 14 for 56 from the field (25%). Dude was 7 foot 2 inches...and shot 25% from the field? He also decided it was a brilliant idea being so good from the field that he should also extend his talents beyond the 3-point line...and shot just as well (4 for 16). Easily the worst I have seen in my 20 years+ as a Celtic fan.

Absolutely not.

The last time I bet an NBA game there was nothing left to bet one night but the Lakers laying big points at home, so I back L.A. and they come out wearing 70's style short shorts and put up like 30 points in the first half... came out in different shorts and played better, but not nearly well enough. Fuck the nba.

I am glad that you chimed in because your opinion means the most because you know these players well...
Here is some perspective on the comparison... Sundov may have stunk it up on the floor, but he damaged the team minimally in terms of salary and years played..
I mean it is almost criminal by comparison to see how the two are paid...
Celtic dollars from Celtic tickets get completely burnt with this guy sitting on the bench... I doubt that Sundov was such a complete "money pit"

He might have effort, but there are played int he NBA that can play at 50% and be twice the player Scalabrine is giving it his all...

Scalabrine has a lot more intangibles than Sundov ever did. He was a fan favorite for the past 3+ years. Played solid defense, and every now and then decided to hit a shot. Just the reaction from the fans when he went into the game, or attempted a shot brought a much higher energy to the crowd.
Was he overpaid? Hell yeah, by a longshot. But IMO you need a token white guy on the team to be successful. A guy to cheer his ass off on the bench, and a guy to give the white guys in the crowd someone to follow. Scal was that guy in a nutshell, and he will be missed by the Celtics.

im a huge Celts fan, they have been my fav team since ive been a kid.
Scalabrine is absolutely NOT the worst celtic of all time.. i wont talke about numbers but this guy actually works his ass off which right there gets him some points from me, plus we all know he isnt a starter or a guy that can play 20 minutes a game but in the playoffs a couple years ago when the Celts had to play him a crap load of minutes (20 per game), he wasnt super awful lol. He was the 3rd big man off the bench (big baby and perk were starting) and scal played fairly okay, he was eating up minutes to give perk and baby a rest which was his role. I dont think he is even a good player but the guy for sure is not the worst celtic of all time... And of course with the celtics (usually a very deep team up front) his numbers wont be good...
I think they are only bringing up Scal as one of the worst of all time because he is a recent ex-celtic.. His stats are shit though i will agree.
haha.
