What do you guys think? Does anyone in here hunt? And if so, what do you hunt? Is this sport on its' way out? Can we get some rednecks to weigh in here?

First of all, not all people that hunt are rednecks. I enjoy hunting squirrel + dove more than anything. { i can't sit still for long periods of time} I try + harvest 2 deer a year for meat in my freezer + then i am done with it. I also recently purchased a call box to begin hunting coyote + bobcats. {monster bobcat caught on my game camera on my property}. I also believe that hunting is a dying sport. If i remember correctly, less than 10% of Alabamians bought a hunting license last year. Dads don't take their children hunting as much as they use to...the kids would rather play video games than get up before sun rise.

Hunting requires long grueling hikes and hours of boredom sitting in the cold mud next to another man. Much easier to just run over a few deer here an there with the ole pickup truck.

I grew up hunting quail and dove and pheasant. I second what captjohn said about getting up before sunrise. I used to hate that but it was fun spending time with my dad. The long hikes were really scenic and memorable but I didn't appreciate them much at the time. We cleaned and ate/froze everything we shot.
Now I've lived in a city for awhile. There is no hunting around me, too many people. I go back to hunt maybe once every year or 2, if that. Did it last year. Its fun watching the dogs work/point and spending time with family and friends. Reminds me of when I was a kid and times were simpler. Getting more and more difficult to find places where people and development aren't encroaching.

I raise and train hunting dogs (English Pointers). I can remember going hunting with my dad in Iowa in the 70's-you knock on the farmers door and ask him if you could hunt his fence row. Usually he would say "go ahead" and you would drop him off a few birds on the way out. Now, you have to pay big $ for a lease to be able to hunt.

I can't complain if the hunted is used for food. I was watching hunting shows on VS today and was amazed to see this idiot shooting elephants and buffalo. This guy cant be using that meat! Even though, minus the killing of the animals, I would have much preferred being out in nature with my pops instead of watching him crush Heinekens back in the day. Fishing probably would have been right up my alley. GL to all this weekend, anyone with any hot plays for tonight's MLB?

I have hunted all of my life for just about every type of woodland creature. I never considered it a sport at all. It's more of a leisure activity like horseshoes. Machine Gun hunting would be interesting once in a lifetime, but I sure in fuck wouldn't want to be out in the woods that day.

What do you do with the bobcat after you shoot it? Are bobcats endangered in Bama?
nothing except have it mounted or tan the hide...but the local cattle farmers will love you for protecting their calves, sheep, etc...no closed season for coyotes, bobcats during gun deer season only...and the only reason i caught him on camera was because he was hunting a spotted fawn deer {baby}...

Hunters remind me of serial killers.....Most are just too big of pussies to kill humans because of the consequences so they do the next best thing and shoot bambi.

Target shooting is sport, but tromping around in the woods or sitting in a tree covered and hidden by leaves waiting a deer to walk by so you can murder it without it ever seeing you is about as much sport as darts and fucked up, unless you gut it and invite me over to eat it, then I'll call it whatever you want....
And yes, I love tp shoot up all sorts of shit, but I'm not being athletic when I do it.

I used to hunt a lot, back when I was in school in Minnesota, used to travel all over to hunt. Mainly pheasants and waterfowl, shot some deer as well. South Dakota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and Minn, it was a blast. For me it was about getting away from all the bullshit you have to deal with in the city. Lived in MPLS, at the time. It can be extremely relaxing and stress relieving. Didn't matter if you had any luck or not.
Hunting Canadian Geese on the bluffs of Lake Oahe on the Missouri River near Pierre, South Dakota was the best hunting experience in my entire life. Nothing like hiding in a camouflaged blind bombing away with your shotgun at fucking huge Geese all morning. You should see how high they bounce off the ground when u knock one down from a significant distance. Good stuff
Also, the anticipation that arises when a flock of Geese starts to descend towards your decoys with a goose call is incredible.
But my career took me to out here to the fucking desert, so i haven't been back to hunt in a few years. I fucking miss it.
And no its not a sport, its a hobby for those who enjoy being outdoors.

There nothing wrong with hunting. I've never hunted but have friends that do. By the same token, I don't bat an eye when a bear or some other animal mauls a camper or hiker, shit, he don't know who's armed and who isn't......Animals should be allowed to hunt, too. Fair is fair....

Is hunting a dying sport?

I wish I could hunt tourists that drive like shit and make Florida really annoying.
Bo Knight hunts. I find it interesting that when he misses one type of animal, he always hits something else alive that is always somehow connected with some type of athletics just like Bob is.
People that reside in the county that Bob hunts in, should just stay indoors on those days.......

Nothing wrong with hunting...Whoever says its torture cracks me up.. Alot quicker death than that beef you're eating everyday.. The cows killed for that hamburger go through torture when they do mass kills..
Nothing like waking up early in the morning and killing a deer...Or any other "hunted" animal....
