I cannot stand banks. I hate them. Bad enough I have to deal with Chase and all their bullshit with my mortgage for the next 30 years or whatever. I want to close ALL my bank accounts and use straight cash to pay bills. I understand the convience of having accounts to pay things online but I live close to all my utility companies. Anybody go straight cash? What are the drawbacks?

1) Getting into a scrape when someone finds out 2) It's a helluva lot easier to spend 3) If you do ever need credit, or have to have a credit check (new job for example), you are pretty well hosed.

I can think of three straight away...

you can get one of those "bank" or whatever cards if you wants a credit card so u can load $ on there. and then pay your bills with money orders. places in vegas dont even charge for money orders
if you live close to the places you can go in person to pay a bill. not a bad idea

I wouldnt be carrying thousands on me, maybe 1k for a dew days or so. I spent more swiping debit/credit cards than cash. For me, seeing my cash dwindle down makes me rethink any purchases. The credit thing doesnt worry me. I have a house note and had auto loans that have been paid off. My credit is in good shape even though I dont have any balances except my house.

or at least mine is. you have to keep looking until you're happy.
these days you need a bank and a checkings account.
the big banks are brutal though. my experience with bank of america was awful .... could not have been worse.
so .... i hear ya ... but you need one.
good ol big brother keeping an eye on us ( by that i mean ... ie: the american gov't etc )
^^ have to be specific around here.
I know it sounds stupid and im just a little drop in the ocean to Chase but they have left a bad taste in my mouth. I hate being treated like shit. That goes for all my dealings with these fortune 500 banks. I guess I should just switch to a local bank and see how that goes. I really wanna try this cash only thing for myself and see what its like. Closing my chase account Friday once my last payroll deposit hits

the thread title should be ... WTF!!!! Are you guys having any problems with the big banks???????
and then you could tell us a story about how you had a big bank and for some reason you had to call them ..... then ..... go on a 25 minute rant about how dumb these people are ..... then ..... tell us about how they passed the phone around to 15 people making you wait 20 minutes each time .... so .... it ends up being a 300 minute call and at the end of it you didnt get an answer.
and ..... ^^ all of this is happening during your lunch hour when you're supposed to be relaxing.
you too?
(ive seen a lot of these threads popping up lately)

Credit is a great thing to build. In my opinion just paying cash or debit is retarded...if you have good discipline use your credit card and pay it off appropriately...but if you are compulsive, don't take this advice. I use credit cards to build my credit (I am only 23) but that one day you wanna throw down for something big like a house or a car, you want to have a good credit score man, Interest rates suck but it is well worth it if you plan on making big steps in your life, at least thats what my dad taught me. I am no Confucious but my dad is as wise as they come in my book and he is doing well for himself and have the utmost respect for him when it comes to financial matters. Debt sucks, but at the same time I believe that it will be the thing that saves you in the end IF you are able to take care of it responsibly, by no means am I a financial wizard but hopefully this all make sense to you, Best of luck to you my friend

That are advantages and disadvantages to both sides. Your perception matters as to what is the most important.
Carrying cash (and lots of it) is risking. I've been robbed at gunpoint before while holding over 2 grand. Before anybody calls me stupid for carrying that much cash on me. I have to say that I was being followed and I was actually on my way to put the money in a safe place when it happened.
So if you do go that route. Don't tell anybody around you that is what you've done.
Banks will gladly take your money and you don't have to worry about that.
I don't really know your personal situation so it would be wrong of me to say take your money out of the banks. Someone already said it can do damage to your credit and if you ever did need a loan or something, you'd be fucked. Also, other than the obvious robbery issue with holding on to all that cash - you also have to think about keeping track of it will be a lot harder. Spending can become a huge problem if you don't know how to control your cash. With a bank you don't have to worry about keeping track of it as each dollar and cent has a detailed transaction description allowing budgeting to become a little easier.
But if you want to do it, go for it. That's real OG right there. Livin 1700's style.
