My bookie is trying to fuck me over

Alright, ive been with my bookie for a few months now. Ive paid him when ive been down the max and hes paid me when ive been up everytime. I referred one of my friends to him and apparently my friend got down big and is ducking him. Today I log in to my account and it says it has been suspended, so I call him up. He says that I'm being cut off now due to my friends actions. He owes me roughly 1k this week and I doubt I'll see any of that money now. I never thought my friend would duck him but I shouldn't be held accountable for my friends actions, should I? What do I do here?

confront your friend. and tell him what happened. If your friend was down over 1k just make him pay u back that in installment if he has to and never refer him again and find a new bookie

I HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN IN 1979.....NEVER SAW THAT FRIEND AGAIN. I ENDED UP COVERING HIS LOSSES.

you vouch for someone, you're on the hook. be lucky the book doesn't come after you for the cash. i agree that you should confront your friend and tell him to pay up

vouching is still important it seems...

a bookie would have dealt with this in another way not so long ago...

Bullshit. My bookie will take action from any Joe Smoe on the street. Business is business between him and I, me being held accountable for an associates losses is ridiculous. I've also referred other people who have paid him. He's going to lose myself, and my other affiliates because of this stupid business move on his part

 I could see you being fucked if it were a local and you vouched for him, but if it's some off-shore outfit and you got a $100 refer a friend bonus _ I'd say that should be the most they should stick you with (in a perfect world)

Thats what it is Frank, how did you know? So this isn't even a real local book? It's a website based out of costa rica and I collect from an agent week in and week out

The real lesson here is an old one. Money and friends/family don't mix. Avoid any problems by following this wise rule.

No, most likely it is a "PPH" site. A third party site who sets local bookies up with sites of their own so they can control their action easily.

But in terms of the situation, the other posters are right. Be lucky he didn't go after you, and just cut you off. This is your friends fault.

In this game, your word is all you have. You vouched for your friend. End of story.

Sorry, but this is your problem. YOU referred him to your bookie and your friend hasn't been dealing with them long enough for you to not be accountable.

Basically your bookie is saying to you, get me my money from your dead beat referral and you will get paid.

If I was a bookie, I would do the same.

It sounds like a PPH site and yes you are on the hook for the money your friend owes.  You brought the guy to your local and vouched for him so its on you now.

i wouldn't be to happy with the bookie...he chose to take the action from your buddy, its not your responsibility to get the money its the bookies. They know when they take on a new customer that they are taking on some risk, now he is putting it off on you. That's bad business. Doesn't sound like you "vouched" for anybody. Apparently you did the bookie a favor and got him some new business, that might warrant a kickback.

He brought  his friend to the bookie and said he was good for the dough so the bookie gave him account.  Now the friend doesnt pay so its on you for vouching for him.

Be careful who you vouch for .The world is full of Scumbags especially with the economy being so terrible.
  . I have the exact problem with a friend of mine I have been friends with for 14 years ( He is a fellow covers poster.). I did the right thing ,and paid his tab.Now my friend avoids me out of shame.Good thing it was only $200 bucks. When Money is involved you really learn the true nature of people. Choose your friends wisely people.

Sounds like he did vouch for somebody otherwise he would have said, "I referred him, but told the bookie I couldn't vouch for him and it's his decision if he wants to do business with him." 

Which should be the way he treats all future situations if he refers someone.  What's wrong with, "he's a good guy and I personally trust him, but I don't vouch for anyone because I can't predict the future."

Yup, he should have established upfront that he has nothing to do with payment inquiries.

Still feel that it is every man for themselves...i guess its like co-signing for a loan...this situation just doesn't sit right with me.
