White guy makes comment about Black guy in a bright yellow shirt.

Black guy kills him with one punch to the head.

I did not know a punch in the jaw could be fatal

did the guy fell on his head ?

Did he break his neck ?
was he drunk ?

that's the problem with fighting ?

Apparently Ben Hawkins is the Defensive Backs Coach at Bradford County High School in Starke, Fla.  Can you imagine this guy on the practice field?  "OK boys, hit'em hard, hit'em once, and they won't get back up"

Hawkin's wife is claiming he was being harassed and was acting in self defense of himself.

Tough one.  He's going to do time, but it really shouldn't be anything too massive.  I'd say 2-3 years is right.  It's not murder.  He didn't plan it, didn't intend to kill the guy.  Self-defense might be a stretch.  I mean, you could push a guy and if he fell the wrong way he might die.  And it's not like it was unprovoked.  But if you're gonna throw a punch, you gotta consider that it could land you in trouble.

He's claiming self defense and yet the victim had his hands in his pockets?

I don't know whether he is going to spend time in jail or not
It depends on the evidence. what's funny/insulting about a black person with a yellow shirt ?

violence can be as verbal as physical

Did Massie challenge Hawkins with a comment such as, "What are you going to do about it?"

lessons learned : word have consequences

More evidence on exactly what happened by other witnesses wiill come out. Imo, Hawkins wasnt being physically threatened by what has been reported so far. By Massie putting his hands in his pockets, there was nothing to show that Hawkins was about to be struck. 

Looks like Hawkins will get involuntary manslaughter charges brought on him. Depending on how good the lawyers are on either side & if other evidence comes out, he could be charged with manslaughter.

I knocked someone out a few years back and he was "lights out" for over a minute. 

You never know... This could happen to anyone in a fight.

Not everyone can take a hit to the head like others... I had a friend who was on a creeper under a car working and rolled out and bumped his head on the bumper and balcked out for a few seconds and then stood up and after a few seconds passed out and died... Broke a blood vessel in his brain from the impact...

I remember hearing a story about a guy in some bar in Miami last year died after taking a single punch... I think the guy who threw the death blow asked for a cigarrette and the guy who got punched declined him...

How many first times are there for anything nowadays?

My comment revolved around "Geedogs" (obvious alias) comment "typical". 

This is NOT at all TYPICAL! -  Of course different people have different thresholds of pain and ability to endure trauma. 

Some people have a glass chin and some people can take a beating like Homer Simpson. 

The point is that this is RARE.
