We play every weekend. Usually play winners stay on but had over 15 guys & decided to rotate 10 off 10 on so everybody gets fair playing time.
Now i'm all for fairness...........but i had issues w/ this as come winter time (summer here in Australia) half these cats aren't dedicated 2 get their asses out of bed & sometimes struggle to get 8 players. Furthermore some come mad late.
I think need to honor those who have constantly been turning up every week & those who constantly help make up numbers during freezing winter mornings.
You guys get the same issues?

I play with a bunch of guys who play two games then your off and won't do winner's stay on and it bugs me...The games are so much more intense when you are fighting to stay on the court with winners stay...also if you get a team thats gelling together it's nice to be able to keep that team together

It depends if it is a causal game or competitive. If it is causal then all rotate but if it is competitive winner stays. I prefer winner stays. Believe me after a while the winner is going to want to lose so they can get some rest. BOL!

If you want to get the game strong and motivate people to come early/on time, then switch it back to "winner stays on court".. if u do this, the ones that show up an hour late or so will risk barely playing or not playing at all while the wons who show up on time will play more, and be warmed up and winning. so they get rewarded with more of a burn

Yeah winners stay on, we actually play on thursdays rent the gym for two hours and there is like 12-13 people.
First 5 to make it from the foul line on a team, same with the 2nd 5 guys......then play til 11 by ones and twos...then the 2-4 guys sitting out come on and the losing team shoots to see who gets to play.....

that's what i'm talking about!
not sure why known late comers get as much priority as people who actually dedicate their time and effort into arriving early. just because dudes can't get their asses out of bed early it's no excuse for constantly arriving late. I have 2 kids and i'm 1 of 2 cats that arrive early weekly, for several years without fail.

yup, just feel winners must be rewarded.
But w/ that said what u guys do can be an alternative to 10 off 10 on. winners can instead play 2 games in a row if they win a 3rd they sit. This might actually might work - rather than take winners off entirely after hard fought wins.
Cheers mate

Winner stays if the competition is fair. Nothing worse than winners staying when they have no chance of losing.
teams are usually balanced. we scatter the bigs so each team has at least 1 tall guy. most cats can ball and most on the same level. obviously you get more skilled cats but we all can ball.

Older guys might do win 2 games and your off, or will have subs.
Never heard of rotate 10 off and on.
this common universal rules?
i do like the 2 wins & off rule as an alternative to the 10 off 10 on. and yes 10 off/10 on sucks donkeys balls. this is something someone just made up on the whim.

same. it's only been in our later years they've started to do this wack rule. guess when your a younger buck you understand play hard or get ya ass of the court, win and get rewarded and you have no problems w/ that. It was a far more competitive mind set.

I disagree, if you can put together a team that is unbeatable more power to you. I'm not talking about an indoor gym where time is limited but an outdoor court where you can run from sun-up to sundown.
I loved being on both sides of this equation. If I could find 4 top flight guys to run with I would just concentrate on playing good defense and trying to make the most ridiculous passes possible without worrying about trying to score. If I was playing against an all-star team, I loved jacking it up from all over the court.

We've been playing pick ups on the weekends for well over 10 yrs now. I've been one of the original cats from day 1. Anyway, i'm still one of only 2 who turn up at least 30 mins before start time (mind you we never start on time as dudes turn up 15-20 mins late). Furthermore i'm there during cold winter mornings (still early) when everybody else is too cold to come & play leaving us struggling for numbers during winter.
The day we had over 15+ players i had lost my 1st game (disappointed) and won my 2nd - in this game i outscored everybody on the court willing my team for that win. I did not want to sit again so i played hard. I also had back issues and knew if i sit it may get stiff and i won't be able to go 100% rest of the day.
I then was told we had to do rock/paper/scissors to see which 3 get off the court. I told them sternly i wasn't getting off!! ( i hardly protest in past pick up sessions). there were then 11 dudes on the court and were all just waiting for me to leave the court. Mind you some of the dudes who stayed on did not score a point.
Anyway, i sat down and was quite upset. My back stiffene up. Wasn't able to go hard and the following day had to see a doc. Doc told me i was better off just going home after my back cooled as that's what did the damage. But had i kept it warm and active and then left a little earlier i would have been alright.
so w/ the back pain and me feeling like mates not honoring one of their original, loyal and one of the most dedicated players i was quite aggitated by the situation. I've pretty much been resting my back since as i play league ball during the week and put all my energy in those games.
just thought the situation was pretty wack.

Let me elaborate in why i had such an issue.
