Correction: God has, at His own cost, provided a remedy. Our Lord Savior Jesus Christ said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me. ---John 14:6
I have a suggestion for you.
Before hitting the submit button, read your post, and pray about it. You post a correction almost every time you post. I would think that god would lead you in the direction of making your post impeccable, afterall he did write the bible, why cant he throw you a bone on your covers post? Afterall, you are sticking up for him - you would think he might take an interest.

Let's say we quartered off a nice piece of land on this Earth. It's fully industrialized, it's not like the island on Lost, it's like a normal city. Everything functions, it has basic utilities and everything a normal city would have. In this hypothetical city, the adults never tell their children about god. The children are not brought to church or synagogue or mosques, nothing. Eventually, all the people who had knowledge of god will have died and all is left are their descendants, who were never told of the existence of god. WITHOUT CREATING FACTS THAT I DID NOT INCLUDE IN THIS HYPOTHETICAL, do you think it would be possible for this mini society to "find god?"
Yes.
God is often used to explain the unexplainable. He may not be idolized in his current "form", but they would eventually look to a higher being.

Honestly, yes.
They wouldnt find the christian god, or any of the other established gods, but there would have to be a god for the SJD's and Rostos's of that society. It would start with an unexplainable event or repeated observed phenomenon, followed by the whole religious thing. Just look at recent religions that have sprung up. It still happens because some people just cant say "I dont know" - and other people understand the tax free consequences of taking advantage of them!

Just the answer I was looking for. Now let me add this qualification. This society has NOTHING THAT CANNOT BE EXPLAINED. NO QUESTIONS GO UNANSWERED. Given these added conditions, would god still enter the equation?

Did God write the bible?
I thought it was written by divine prophets?

I would believe the answer to that question is no, God would not be "found".

i think so. i think it is inevitable that the people would ask how they got there and what (or who) created everything. since they wouldn't know the answer, i think it is logical that they would attribute it to something beyond their understanding, whatever that thing might be. and maybe they assign a name to it.
however, i don't think this unknown thing would resemble anything like many of the gods that have been created by humans unless and until a profit motive arose and someone felt the need to manipulate the others.

then no, because even if the profit motive and desire to manipulate arose, the ability wouldn't be there as it is today.

My whole point is that god only comes into the equation when there is a failure to explain something and furthermore, a failure to acknowledge that we don't know. God's sole purpose of "existence" is to be a gap filler; to provide those insecure people who can't handle the notion that there are many things we don't know with some false sense of clarity. The concept of god defies logic, but people are willing to suspend their rational thinking in order to satisfy their desire for some semblance of "answers."

But in fairness, the logical problem with your hypothetical is that if you had the ability to know everything, you would KNOW if god was part of that or not. So there is no god concept if there is no god.
So people like SJD will tell you that god would be there because god is there and people would know it, and I would say no way because you would have all of the answers and god wouldnt even enter the conversation.
It is kind of like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

We oversimplified our original responses.
God may still be "introduced" as a way of controlling the masses. A higher moral authority if you will.

This may be the weakest argument I've posted, but it's worth mentioning: Whenever I just take a step back and think about the entire concept of god in the abstract, not taking into account anything in this world, good, evil, the bible, none of that, it just makes no sense. Just thinking about the universe and the notion that some being that transcends reality materialized it into existence seems like a ridiculous notion. The believers constantly have to rationalize their beliefs with bullshit "evidence" from unreliable sources. All I have to do is stop and think and say "this makes no sense." It's occam's razor; the simplest solution is likely the correct one.

1. Putting a rolling laughing emoticon does not make something funny. Try doing the work. Come up wiht something remotely funny, and then post it.
2. I make lots of mistakes typing, but I dont have god on my side. Are you suggesting that the bible might also have mistakes? I think you are!!
What we have here from you are assumptions and opinions.
The definition of assumption is defined as: to take for granted; suppose (something) to be fact.
The definition of opinion is defined as: a belief not based on absolute certainty or positive knowledge but on what seems true, valid or probable to one's own mind: judgment.
So I can honestly say your assumptions and opinions are false.
Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech. ---Proverbs 4:24

acutally, KK, i believe in God. God, to me, is whatever created the universe and resulted in our existence. that's the beginning and the end of it. i have no fuckin clue what that God is, but i also don't see what i would waste a bunch of time worry about it since i'm fairly confident that details of this God won't be dioscovered for many, many years (if the religious nuts don't blow this planet up first), if ever.
my best guess- some scientific reaction.

I have no problem with that. Giving the title of "God" to that which created the universe is perfectly reasonable. The problems arise when people try to attribute purpose and reason for the creation of the universe and mankind and life. When people try and say there is a god that answers prayers and intervenes with our lives. When people try and say there is life after life, which is impossible, because if there is life after life, then you aren't past life yet.
