What is so hard about interpreting , not killing, stealing, lying, love one another, turn the other cheek etc etc?
Where the bible calls the earth a circle, why does it matter how that is interpreted? Or where the bible calls the ends of the world, why does it matter how that is interpreted?
Is the bible a scientific textbook? Does it claim to be one?

Actually, no. I can cite thousands of others who disagree with your interpretation.

Really?...go ahead cite the thousands of others who disagree with my interpretation....lol
By the way which interpretation are you talking about? There have only been a few that my atheist friend crr misinterpreted...so which one?

Quote Posted by hutch: I went to a Lutheran college and had to take a religion class. The one thing we all agreed on is that we couldn't agree as to what certain Bible passages mean (and this was a group largely comprised of believers in God).

And you failed miserably...didn't you?...lol

Some estimates say 10,000 distinct religions.
All claiming to be the one true religion with the one God.
All I'm saying is I hope you backed the right horse!
---------------------------------------------------------------
I did some research and found there are about 21 major world religions today. About 1 billion people do not profess belief in any religion.
But of course the major religions can be broken down further into different sub groups of their respective religions.
There might be thousands but ten thousand might be stetching it a tad too far but nevertheless I'm comfortable and have absolute faith that I have found the right religion for myself as an individual.
Buddhism is just not for me, it is a unique world religion in its own right, though it has much in common with Hinduism in that both teach Karma (cause-and-effect ethics), Maya (the illusory nature of the world), and Samsara (the cycle of reincarnation).
Buddhists believe that the ultimate goal in life is to achieve "enlightenment" as they perceive it. They do not believe in a God as so they are atheists.
The Hindus like I mentioned believe in reincarnation, they believe that cows are their past ancestors and so that religion is definitely not for me.
Those are just a little tiny snapshot of 2 other religions that I just can't have absolute faith in.
I believe in the Christian religion and have absolute faith in it. God has revealed Himself to us through the life, mininistry, miracles and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Jesus had disciples who followed Him and knew Him personally and saw the miracles He performed and the holiness of His character.
They were the witnesses of His resurrection from the dead. They knew He was the Son of God. Some of them wrote their Gospels and can be read in the New Testament of the Holy Bible.
Oh and one last thing, I hope when crr reads your statement, "All I'm saying is I hope you backed the right horse!"
...I hope he doesn't misinterpret what you're really saying and not take it literally...lol He is real good at misinterpreting what he reads...lol

And to whoever wrote that Jesus was the clearest interpretation of god on Earth is dead wrong. That's an insult to other people's beliefs. I could say I believe that the sun is a god and it shows itself to us everyday by shining down on us. I can say that THAT is the clearest representation of god. And I can write pages of scripture and say that it was influenced by the sun. You see how easy it is to make up a religion in about 5 minutes, and then twist and bend it to suit my needs as I see fit?
Christianity, like all the other countless religions that have preceeded it, is a fad. Thousands of years from now it will have been replaced by some other myth.
---------------------------------------------------------------
So in essence you're saying the disciples lied? Look as I have stated before, you got to have faith in something. I believe in the disciples and that they weren't lying to us and making it all up. What would be their motivation to deceive people during their present time and in future generations of people to come into this world?
The coming of Jesus, the Mesiah was prophesied tens of centuries before His coming and can be read in the Old Testament. No one knew exactly when He was coming into the world except for God of course.
After His resurrection, He reappeared to His disciples and told them to spread the "Good News".
They did it regardless of threats on their lives...why? because they weren't afraid of death anymore, they knew that Jesus was the Son of God and that they would be with Him someday in heaven. Many of them were crucified themselves for spreading the "Good News."
In the last chapter of the bible, it is prophesied in the book of Revelation that Jesus will return again and reign on this earth. With the way things currently are in this world, it wouldn't be a surprise at all if He is returning real soon in our lifetime.
Lastly I want to say if I was a disciple of a person who claimed to be the Son of God, saw all the miracles he performed, saw his holy character, saw him die one day by crucifixion then 3 days later reappeared to me and others alive again resurrected from the dead, you darn well know I would follow any command he gives me. I would want all people present and future generations to know about it, I would write about it and wouldn't be afraid to spread this "Good News" regardless if my life was threatened.
Oh wait, this is the last thing I want to say...do you really believe you could make up a religion in about 5 minutes and have present people believing it and future generations believing it?....hihihihi!...you are way too funny my friend!
It's like you're saying the whole bible which actually took about 14 generations to complete, took actually just 5 minutes to complete...again too funny dude!
