I guess my question would be if you believe in a God why does he have to be of the Christian variety?
I understand both sides of the argument. But if you do believe in god how do you know it's the god that is described in Christian versions and not Islam, buddhist, any other type of religion?
And seriously, for the love of this god, can we please get the Mormons to stop knocking on my door?

Ya, keep believing in your invisable friend. There is no god, just like there is no santa claus. It also has to be proven there is a god not that there isn't. just like if I bet an under in a game, I am a winner until the game goes over.
We do have the real answers, its called "science"
But like most of the sheeple on the planet, most are too dumb or lazy to read, learn and understand and they just take the easy road out, they follow others and believe in fairy tales and magic..
Yes, there are most likely other living things in the universe, but they are too fucken far away to get too.
We cant get to them with our technology. Can they get to us? Did they evolve? How did their planet form?
Science cant answer those questions. Nothing and nobody can. Thats why is meaningless to argue.

Ktrain, those are excellent questions and thats why theres no reason for anybody to argue this stuff, because man just cant answer those questions. Your right for all we know the buddhists God might have created everything, no way for us to know

Unlike any other revelation of God, Jesus Christ is the clearest, most specific picture of God revealing Himself to us.
Why Jesus? Look throughout the major world religions and you'll find that Buddha, Muhammad, Confucius all identified themselves as teachers or prophets. None of them ever claimed to be equal to God.
Surprisingly, Jesus did. That is what sets Jesus apart from all the others. He said God exists and you're looking at him. Though he talked about his Father in heaven, it was not from the position of separation, but of very close union, unique to all humankind.
Jesus said that anyone who had seen Him had seen the Father, anyone who believed in him, believed in the Father.
He said, "I am the light of the world, he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." He claimed attributes belonging only to God: to be able to forgive people of their sin, free them from habits of sin, give people a more abundant life and give them eternal life in heaven.
Unlike other teachers who focused people on their words, Jesus pointed people to himself. He did not say, "follow my words and you will find truth." He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father but through me."

System, please give me proof God doesnt exist and that the bible is just a fairy tale?
see neither side can prove anything, thats why these kinds of discussions are completely useless.
Like i keep saying, no man is capable of having the answern to this question
No proof required on system's end. The natural position is to not believe in magic. So until you (or someone else) can prove god does exist, we will carry on not believing in magic.
Not trying to start another 4000 post thread here (there have been 2 already). That is just my position. If you or anyone else wants to believe in god, go right ahead. As long as your beliefs don't create a problem in my life, I couldn't care less.

problem is, religion does create problems in our lives because it divides people and makes people think they are better than others...

Belief in a higher power isn't the problem. The problem is when people try and tell other people what do to based on that belief or when those people do immoral things and blame the higher power.

The only reason a person believes in any "god" is because they were raised to believe that. It's as simple as that. It's a fairy tale passed down from generation to generation. If you grew up wild in the woods you'd probably believe that the sun was a god, or that there was a god who controlled water, animals, etc.
Here's my take: human beings are scared, ruthless, ignorant pieces of shit. Instead of creating a paradise on Earth, which we could easily do, we scam each other over and continue to rape this planet. So, as a counter measure, religion is 'invented' as a way to keep people in line...a set of rules and guidelines to follow so we don't destroy each other completely. It's a man made concept and hey, if it works, great. "Don't kill, don't steal, etc."
My guess is 10,000 years from now, many of the traditional religions that people subscribe to now will be totally replaced by other, similarly insane, religions.
And if it's all faith-based...then aren't I just as valid believing in KLONDOR a god that I just invented 2 seconds ago who gave birth to the sun and then married the moon and had planets as their offspring? Isn't that just as valid as Christianity? If that's what I believe? Maybe my new religion will catch on and 2,000 years from now all the lunkheads on the planet will believe in KLONDOR.
