Slob. As a former Roman Catholic, you should know the first commandment .
Yes Mr Don Juan,
Something along the lines that I shouldn't have any Gods before me.
Just because I was born on this side of the Earth (in the good ole USA) doesn't mean that my God is better or right than someone else's God in Asia or any other continent.
There's no point debating this religious BS in this thread because it's supposed to be about Saving Money.
This thread has gone off topic and hijacked by both of us and it's not fair to the initial poster who created it.
If you'd like to start a thread to discuss this topic at a civil level, I'd be happy to but I have a feeling that it's not going to go anywhere.
Don, I respect your beliefs in Jesus Christ, I just don't agree with them.

Wrong, tax free means just as it says, Tax Free. You are talking about tax deferred, Meaning when you take it out, you pay tax on it then.
Correct
Thorpe is referring to something like a traditional IRA, while I was referring to someone earlier in this thread mentioning tax free income from an investment like a Roth IRA
The point I am trying to make is that not only is the government less and less stable, unaccountable to the people it works for, and wasteful, it isn't without precedent that the gov. will offer incentives on programs and investments only to withdraw them later on

Slobb, One last point.. All 7 continents have seen the cross and heard of Christ .
Peace.
Conquistadors killed off millions of people all over the Americas and forced their beliefs on the indigenous people of the land. If they didn't agree, they were slaughtered and the women were raped. This is a group of devout religious freaks that believed Jesus Christ is the son of God. Explain the rationale of Peace behind their actions. I guess the God they believed in was wrong but Jesus is right, hahaha. Peace my a$$.
Explain how that's peace. When it comes to believing in God, I'd rather not go all-in believing in a spooky, incompetent magician who people actually believe is the son of God.
It's a phucking joke. Going to Sunday mass every Sunday and going to CCD twice a week will not brainwash this fellow.
You should try reading more. People who blindly follow Jesus, or any other messiah/prophet, are more dangerous to our society than any other group of people.
More wars have been started throughout the history of the world and religion is the #1 culprit.
If you don't agree, what is? Please explain. I would love to hear it.
I can call Jesus Christ an a$$hole cocksucker who encourages the pope, cardinals, bishops and priests to rape little children and I'll still be granted admission into heaven after I spend my time in purgatory because that's what Roman Catholicism teaches us! This is an example of how ridiculous the religion I was raised on actually is.
And Don Juan, 1 last question......Does the pope sh!t in the woods?

Thecentaur.. MY point is this..If you pay off your home, you are more stable than the government.
Don't take your chances on gettting your money back some time in the distant future. Bet on yourself. Pay off your home, Fast
Oh absolutely
I was just saying investments considered safe based on government solvency or laws aren't that safe
As far as the religion debate, here is my take. There has been a lot of pain, persecution, and death in the name of religion. Yet I think the world is a much better place because of religions (with the exception of a few of them), because to think there would not still be plenty of killing and raping if there was no religion is a mistake. There would be and have always been wars over bodies of water, resources, some king insulting some other king, etc. and there would be no moral compass to at least say it was wrong.
I don't think people are born knowing killing, stealing, and raping is bad, and without religion we wouldn't have such common and taken for granted philosophies such as thou shalt not kill and the golden rule and

At least we have one person with common sense in this thread.
People like Slob are full of doubt and lash out with vile remarks, profanity, even about a Pope, a man who sacrificed his life to the church. A man who preaches love, hope, goodness around the world.
Billions of people around the world believe in Jesus Christ, and 40 authors of the Bible and 12 actual witnesses, the Apostles. Including a doubting Tom. They all preached, love, peace, and hope for the future especially this time of year.
You're so right Thecentaur. people are taught right from wrong, good from evil, then they have a choice.
As the Bible says. You have seen creation, heard the Word, and you know right from wrong.. You will have no excuse.

Yeah, I lack common sense because I don't agree with you. Apparently, you are a very dense individual.
I'm going to heaven and I will meet Jesus Christ because I just purchased $30,000 worth of indulgences.
That's right! I can use my net worth to have the Church forgive me of all my wrongdoings! Like I've mentioned, I'm covered on all angles if your little fairy tale turns out to be true.
That Florida sun has really melted your brain. it might do you well to think outside of the box.
Billions of people from around the world believe in something that can't be proven? Then it must be right!
Born again Jesus freaks.
Create a new thread DJ.
You started this bullsh!t religious debate. I'm still stuck on which topic gets more of your panties in a bunch; politics or religion.
You make a fool out of yourself in the Politics forum and now you bring up your beliefs to the GD forum; a thread that's supposed to be about saving money.

If you're going to quote scripture, please indicate where it says that ! Verse please.
Nowhere in the Bible does it say that !.. Shakespeare said it.
We support the church because it spreads the Word of God. Jesus promoted peace and love, and to help others. This is why we give to the church.
Furthermore, It was a old testament Jewish tradition to payoff your home in 7 years. YOU Can do both.
Great, drop the religious bullsh!t. It doesn't get anywhere.
But this is the post, which you are accountable of, for hijacking this man's thread. This was supposed to be about "Saving Money" and I'm an a$$hole for egging you on about JC.
Who would have thought that a simple bit from George Carlin would aggravate you. Again, it was just a joke that you took to heart.
Have a good night and say a prayer for my lost soul.
BOL with your picks.

Thorpe is referring to something like a traditional IRA, while I was referring to someone earlier in this thread mentioning tax free income from an investment like a Roth IRA
I don't have a Roth IRA, so correct me if I am wrong, but that isn't tax free either. You pay taxes on the income that goes into the Roth, and it is tax free when you withdraw it...
The USA will always be able to borrow more money, and the sancitiy of contracts and private property is written into the constitution. It takes 3/4 of the states to change the constituion which probably won't happen in our lifetimes, so short of a military coup there isn't much to worry about IMO. I'd be more worried about runaway inflation making your savings worthless

I didn't highjack his thread, I responded. He brought up the Bible, when he was trying to quote scripture.
You brought religion in to this discussion. Am I right or wrong?
You got heated when I brought up a religious joke that George Carlin created about 20 years ago. Right or wrong?
You were preaching to this forum about Jesus is full of Peace when most of his devout followers at the time slaughtered millions of people all over the Americas. Right or wrong? (I egged you on at this point, which I'm not proud of.)
If I knew it was going to get you this upset, I would have never brought it up. After all, this is a gambling website for adults and most adults like comedy. You can agree with it or not, but don't let it turn in to a religious debate that goes nowhere.
AS I REITERATE FOR THE 3RD TIME IN THIS THREAD, THIS IS MY RELIGION.
TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED.
KEEP YOUR RELIGION TO YOURSELF; OTHERWISE, THE DEVOUT ONES WILL JUSTIFY ANOTHER WAR OUT OF IT.
I don't need a religious story to teach me it. It's common sense.

Getting into semantics here, but technically a Traditional IRA is tax deductible or tax deferred, and a Roth is tax free which is what was brought up ("tax free")so that's what I was referring to. The important discrepancy with regards to my statement is that depending on the government keeping their word 40 years from now isn't as safe as a lot of people think considering exponential increases in gov. spending and waste.
Once again their are precedents for this. Social security income and unemployment benefits were supposed to be tax free until they decided to start taxing it

Roth IRA. Hands down no contest.

Investing is a whole new World you will be entering.
Convince yourself you need an actual broker from a major name. You can find some cheap ones.
Index funds are very good-Start with one that tracks the S&P 500, then one that has more risk (you can figure out how much risk talking to your broker). Even a foreign index fund will be around 48% U.S. companies.
Don't forget to invest in your home. A remodeled kitchen, deck in the back is also a good investment, IMHO.
I know some people love to support their church, but even the Bible says "To thine own self be true....."
