You are correct sir.  On one condition.  A judgement call by the umpire.  If the batted ball hits the baserunner BEFORE a defensive player has a chance to field it then that baserunner shall be declared out.  Dead ball.  If the batted ball hits the baserunner AFTER a defensive player attempts to field it then the ball is live and in action.  The batter has a chance to reach first base.
