Crow... Basic strategy doesn't guarantee anything, but if you play a lot, and don't count cards, the dealer will only have about a 1% advantage on you. In other words, over the long term, you won't lose much, and you won't win much. That said, the more you stray from basic strategy (and you're straying a lot), the more money you're leaving on the table and the dealer advantage on you increases.
You're suppose to always split aces and eights. This is one of the advantages you have on the dealer. If you only do it sometimes, and I do it all the time, I'm gonna make more money than you, all things being equal. It's the same with pairs and doubling down. It sounds like you do a lot of things that might piss people off at the table, but don't worry about that. Seriously... don't pay any mind to them. Tell them to leave if they don't like the way you're playing. They're ignorant. The way you play your cards doesn't affect them one bit. They'll tell you otherwise, but they're wrong.
There's things you could do differently that would make you more money, but if it works for you, that's all that matters.

The dealer can always go get another job? They had this campaign in Vegas that has been running on the radio station non stop to try to get it to a vote for making casinos smoke free and it befuddles me. I get it secondhand smoke isn't the best for you, but to go on crying about it when you have a choice to not work there is insane. When they got hired they knew people smoked in the casino it's not a huge secret. They knew second hand smoke was bad for you yet they took the job anyways. That's like a fireman bitching that he has to go into a burning building. It just makes so goddamn sense to me.
A fireman does not go into a burning building EVERY day. And when training to be a casino dealer, do they have people constantly blowing smoke in your face to simulate the job?

Wizardofroz... that's a great point you make about first chair. I think I'm gonna implement that from now on.
I need to get that $315 back. I don't have to do that right away or all at once, but I will. Gonna stay away for a bit. Need a much needed break. I'll go in fresh after a few months. That last trip just pissed me off. I'd have a 19, the dealer would have a 4 up, flip a 6, then a 3, then a 7 giving him 20. Shît like that happened every other hand or so it seemed. It was ridiculous. When I left I was furious.
I had a simple rule in regards to your solid hands losing. If my 19s and 20s are not good enough, why would I expect to get paid on my junk hands? After about 3 or 4 of those tough losses, I would either wait for a new shoe, go to another table, play another game, or just leave all together.

i have a question for all of you, let me know what you think of this because this is what i do whenever i play blackjack:
When i have 2 aces i will split when dealer shows 2-6 but when it's a 7 showing or higher, i will never split or double down, i just play the hand out. If only i could hit after spliting the aces then i'd always split them
Whenever i have a hard 12 against a dealer 2 i will never hit, always stand no matter what.
if a dealer shows a 7 and i have a soft 17, i will never hit other than this i will always hit my soft 17s
And maybe you don't really care about these scenarios as much but would you feel there will be some other angry people at the tables?
Even though basic strategy says otherwise, you are probably not too far off with ALL your examples of being decent alternative mathematical plays, but with just SLIGHTLY worse long-term results. The book says to split hit a 12 vs a dealer 2 or 3, but I RARELY see people doing it vs a 3. Also, the book says to ALWAYS split 8s, but I do not think it is a very good idea to do so was a ten or ace.

Played at Wheeling today at a $10 table. Just idiots. I don't how many times people were speculating what would have happened if he hadn't hit this or if she had hit that. Then they'll say "Oh that worked out great for everybody!" They don't realize I guess that the entire shoe is changed. And they also don't realize that it doesn't make a damn bit of difference who hits what. You're still gonna get good hands and bad hands. I don't care what anybody says. Another player's moves is not gonna make you lose all your money no matter how stupid those moves are. In the end the good luck and bad luck is all gonna even out. Then I have a lady tell me that when she doubles down against a dealer 10, she always ends up with 21. I was getting shît cards all day long and lost $315. What a shîtty day. I don't care who hits what. The next blackjack I get I can thank the dumbshît that doubled on a soft 14 against a dealer 10. Yes... he did it. He was sitting right beside me. He was a fifty year old harry fat man wearing a sleeveless Cavs Lebron jersey. Classic.
1. black jack is a team game (everyone vs the dealer)
2. Depending on how you play and where you sit, your hits can effect the whole game.
3. Dealer has one rule, if hes 17 and below, he must hit. If your stupid ass is at the end And you have 14 everyone before you drew very low cards. The chances of a face card and high card for the dealer is going to be very very high. This is why the people ahead of you tell your stupid ass to not hit. If your ass hit and pulls a 7 sure youll have 21. But that 7 could have busted the dealer. And you would have won the table anyways!!!! Instead the next card the dealer pulls is a 4 you and the dealer tie at 21 and nobody wins the first 4 people had 18 19 or 20 they still would have lost.
Learn to play or go play pai gow or poker.
Ps. Ex casino dealer here. Tellin yall how dumb yall are. Hahahahaha thanks to dumbasses like you for lining my wallet with your cash. You basically pay for my living.
PPs. If youre stupid, do not call someone else stupid. Its embarassing.

Blackjack has a negative expected value. anyone who plays black jack for any other reason other than entertainment is stupid in my opinion.
True. BUT... I have found a way to erase that negative expected value.
Anybody who says they can successfully count cards into a 6 or 8 deck shoe is FOS. The true count can NEVER give you a big enough advantage into so many decks.
Forget about +1 & -1 counting. Forget about counting ten value cards. The secret is to only count ACES. If you have an ACE-RICH shoe remaining you can be a winner.
I play TWO HANDS and will modestly press my two wagers when there is a positive Ace Count remaining in the shoe. It works. Aces can help players in so many ways... giving you soft hands to hit, doubling on tens, paying 3-2 on a Blackjack.
Why do you think casinos are trying to get players to play at 6-5 Blackjack tables??? DO NOT EVER play at a 6-5 Blackjack table.
Count Aces. It negates the House Advantage and gives you a real shot at winning.
TRUTH.

You're at the table, and a newbie sits down next to you. They haven't played that much, but they've heard of players hating on people who make "rookie" mistakes/upsetting other players.....so........
They will ASK YOU how do I play this hand? You give them the Basic Play answer...........AND DO THE OPPOSITE
Why the F did you ask, if you're not going to follow direction? Makes no sense......

Your hits or lack of hits do affect the whole table, although that is correct what your leaving out is that affect can be positive just as much as it could be negative for each player.
If you do the wrong thing that could just as well be positive result for the player next to you , the odds of being positive or negative don't change. if you play by the right rules VS dealer.

I was playing at the Orleans back in April at a $5 table and this gentleman was playing 500 A hand two hands at a time. Had no idea what he was doing. I saw him drop 10000 in less than an hour. I won around 200 Playing solid blackjack. His play had no effect on my game but screwed himself badly.

mousoukishin, ex casino floorman or whatever ??? such moronic statements. half the comments in here had incorrect theories. bottom line is to play basic strategy, count cards, and know the new strategies based on the count if its plus or minus. it does not matter if you are playing with idiots who dont play basic strategy, all that matters is the count when it comes to making your bet and when deciding to hit or stick. and yes you do split 10s, when the count says to. and there are times when you do indeed surrender a 14. people dont like to surrender but you lose less money in the long run rather than playing out you 15 or 16 when the dealer shows 10. and there are times when you do buy insurance, depending on the count.

Wow! I was surprised to see this from seven years ago. I was stupid for calling them stupid. Ignorant would have been the more accurate term. All they need is the knowledge.

Was playing a session early this morning with a young kid who had never played but wanted to learn. He picked a perfect time to start playing. A Tuesday morning and the place was deserted. So it was just him and I at a $10 table with an excellent dealer who was willing to help.
He did not want to hit his 16's against a dealer 10 but also did not want to surrender. Both the dealer and I agreed that was fine AS LONG AS HE REMAINED CONSISTENT. Most people would agree with that, I hope. That is what drives me crazy when people keep flip-flopping doing different things at different times. This kid was definitely not counting cards, so if your not counting, then just simply be consistent.
He was on 1st base and I was playing two hands in the anchor chair and nobody was cutting in or out. Perfect playing conditions. Dealer was giving him advise on splitting and doubling. One time he got an Ace but was upset because the dealer put a 6 on his Ace, no blackjack. With the dealer showing a 5 I told him "no problem, just double down on it and it might be better than a blackjack". He looked confused but the dealer nodded her head in agreement so he doubled down, got a sh!tty card and looked even more confused. Until the dealer busted and paid him $20 instead of $15.
Hey, there is nothing wrong with "winning ugly". Do that all day long.
