Death, unfortunately, befalls us all. We cannot escape it.
It seems when things are well, most do not ponder it. We are entertained with our lives, or we are extremely busy working and taking care of daily tasks, that we may not stop to think about it.
For those of you who have either:
1. Had a near death experience 2. Deeply pondered mortality
I would like to hear your thoughts. Particularly, what conclusions have you reached in your own mind?
Meaning, have you felt or found a good purpose in life thinking about this? Have you changed anything you've done? Do you take a negative approach to things? A positive one?
What do you value mostly? What do you cherish? What do you regret What do you yearn for? What do you want out of your remaining time?

Considered the dirt nap route very seriously after the phuqing Hawks score 10 points in the 4th quarter.
No, I won't regret anything. This is life and NOBODY gets a fair shake but every single day is new and that's what makes it all worthwhile Do the best ya can, always be kind, considerate and courteous to other people. Putting a smile on somebody's face, help strangers, (especially children) is all that matters in this world. They'll never forget you.

I've spoken to people in hospices who looked after people with little time remaining, every one of them said, the one regret they heard most often was that the "patient" wished they hand;t worked so hard and spent more time doing something else

"If you're not living life on the edge than you are taking up too much space."
As I start my day with the usual Bong Hit and a Twisted Tea. Today being Saturday I am firing back a 12%ALC Four Loko. By 9am local all my capping will be done for the day.
"Too much talk about your inevitable death is not good for your Soul."

If I ever get to the point in my life that I'm dating used trash and I'm crying because said trash won't let me see her kids after we break up.. Well, then I'll blow my brains out.

This is a fine line. We all need to work though to support ourselves and families. It's a double edged sword because you work to take care of yourself and family, but while at work, you can't necessarily spend your time with them.

Are you like a psychology major working on a term paper or something? If you're really just looking for different opinions and using this thread as a "social experiment" to strengthen your skills as a psychiatrist, I would cut through the B.S. and get Detox and Scalabrine on your couch ASA MF'n P! Lots of deep seeded Mommy and Daddy issues there, not to mention the whole white guilt and self-loathing going on. Just look at Detox's responses in this thread alone.
I would suggest shock therapy and a lobotomy "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" style, but hey, I'm not a shrink......

I spent a lot of time thinking about this stuff.. The time investment was worth it, because of the "inner peace" I gained.
This pretty well sums it up......
"George Harrison's family issued a statement saying: "He left this world as he lived in it, conscious of God, fearless of death, and at peace, surrounded by family and friends. He often said, 'Everything else can wait but the search for God cannot wait, and love one another."' "

If this is the only life you have and there is no ultimate accountability, then why not do whatever makes you happy?
If helping others, feeding the poor makes you happy then so be it, if ripping others, stealing cheating, lying , raping makes you happy, then so be it...
The universe is going to die a heat death, where all memory, all knowledge gained, all records achieved, all milestones achieved, all good deeds, all bad deeds will be completely eliminated.
Based on this, just do whatever makes you happy, whatever that maybe.......if there is no ultimate accountability.

People who don't do the above mentioned things due to a fear of an eternal burning sensation scare the living sh%t out of me.....I fear them much more than the the ones who do those things openly...and it's not even close.

You actually know people that have told you they don't help others or don't lie because of this?

Why? Arent our behaviours primarily driven by consequences? Most people don't engage in illegal activities because of the consequences?
But besides, what difference does it make? Wether you lived your life like Mother Theresa or Stalin, in the end, it makes no difference. In fact, it would be illogical to live your life where you did things that didn't maximise your happiness.
