thinking about moving to arizona.....any reviews/advice?

the one place where i left a cassette tape in the window and it melted. tubing on the salt river was the best. they even filmed part of bill and teds excellent adventure in tempe,but that was 20yrs ago. i love arizona myself but you gotta have ac

I'll leave it up to you all to take a wild guess as to why. 

Also, we finally have a REAL football team and an awesome stadium. I had season tickets last year and other than it being 50 miles from my house, going to games now is a blast.

 

Its was the end of May, 2008,,,,could of swore that was an accurate statement,,,but,,,,i guess I could have been off a little

There aren't that many days over 110 in any given summer. I want to say the number is around 15......so, the 115 temps, while the do happen are not happening for weeks on end and in PHX a temperature of 100-105 isn't really all that uncomfortable.

After being up there for a few months, I'd pay for higher percentage of sunny days like a utility bill.

Good timing for me w/ this thread.  I recently was offered an opportunity by my friend to open a nutrition/healthfood store w/ no investment because i have 10+ yrs in the industry.  For anyone who lives there, is there much competition/demand for supplements etc?  I know there are alot of GNC's there, but I would destroy them on pricing.

Does anyone have some insight on good/bad areas around Phoenix? I know Scottsdale is upscale, but are there areas that are no-brainers to avoid? I've only been down there 3 times, twice I stayed around Glendale which seemed like an OK area.....

Avoid the outlying areas unless you work by them.

The allure is to go to Litchfield Park or Glibert or Goodyear or Anthem etc because of cheap housing..well that is a mistake.

Live close to where you work, find the best RESALE areas, live where it is easy to get to and from town and you will be glad you did.

I live in Glendale but even there it is a bit inconvenient getting to the airport or Scottsdale or the East Valley (relatives), I would get a smaller house in a better area than shop for price per foot..

I liked the Glendale area (on Northern Ave) since it was close to the Mariners & Brewers fields.............
 Is the east/NE side of Phoenix generally a better area? Worth paying a bit more for?

That area of Glendale is not where I would want to live..too many patches of older houses and undesirable areas..

And yeah for SURE I think it is worth paying more living in a more desirable location..if I were to do it again I would probably look in N.Scottsdale or N.E Phoenix in certain areas.

Where I worked is a huge deal..getting to Glendale Stadium isnt tough, the 101 swings right by it..from where I lived it only took 15 minutes, not bad at all.

Spent a week in Phoenix/Tempe area last year during the NCAA tourney.

It was nice but not somewhere I would live. To me it felt like outside of those areas there was nothing. No scenery, well scenery that I like, and just desert. Just didnt do it for me. I enjoyed my stay there but could nto see myself living there.

Of course ASU area was a great time. Tons of tail and fun times.

I would never live on the west side. Most of the problem areas are on that side, Glendale is improving from the new stadium and what's being built around it. Scottsdale is the best and the values are way down, Gilbert & Chandler are both nice. Freeways are damn good to get around. City was planned out real well, you learn your way around very quickly. It's a grid system. Main roads are a mile apart that run east/west. North/south roads are streets to the east, avenues to the west. After you live here for a few weeks and start to learn the main roads it's extremely easy to get around.

Anyway -- Ive spent alot of time in Arizona and its SOOOOO fucking hot. It was miserable - I enjoy the house prices, most peeps are friendly but the weather for me is unbearable.

110 in arizona is like 80 in the HUMID northeast. the humidity make a huge difference

Moved to AZ in 1986 when I was 24. I can tell you anything you want to know about AZ.
