When I go with the girl and friends to drink and have a good time I mostly play roulette and black jack.
If i know I am going to try to make some cash, I set a whole day aside, go nice and early and play hold'em all day.Rarely drink when I do this. One of the best times to go is during NFL season. most poker rooms have sunday ticket. its a lot easier to be patient when you can watch every football game while you play.
BOL to you
sounds like you have two modes... one that is care free and fun...
The second sounds all business...
poker lacks appeal to me becasue it is slow, but watching NFL with action on it with poker seems like a nice combo...

I can't do poker. Even if I could beat all my buddies at poker, wherever I'd play in a casino, I always think they have a house "sharp" at the table that would gut me like a fish...........

I started playing seriously about 5 years ago, and I have turned a profit the last 4 years. Plus the comps are fantastic.
I play the same game all the time - double double bonus poker. I make sure I find the machines with the best odds for the lower hands (the larger hands all pay the same amount). I prefer this game because even if I don't hit the royal flush jackpot of $4,000 I can still have a winning session by hitting the smaller four of a kinds with the higher payouts. You need a big enough bankroll to cover your session, and you need to learn perfect strategy. (at leat near perfect) The return can be over 100% if done correctly, and like I said earlier the comps add a lot of value as well.
My understanding of VP is that it is based on a random number generator that creates random outcomes that follow a "normal statistical distribution".
So ideas of the machine being "hot", "full" are 100% untrue... every play is independent of the play before it...
as gamblers we what a "fair gambling chance" whether the machine has paid off a royal flush right before me or has not paid out in weeks...
Therefore different times and days being better is untrue...
I heard that where VP has its advatnages in simply in the pay-outs... best payouts that I have seen in LV was a few in mainstreetstation...
11/8 I think it was, 10/7 was also offered... VP people know what I am talking about...
I think most places you go on the strip will give you 8/5
I am interested in your "perfect strategy"...
as my understanding of VP is that your best statistical advantage is the increased pay out for the royal flush at max bet...

Hawk had some good info dealing with blackjack and counting the cards.
I live near Wendover, NV and only play in those casinos. They are all single deck which is good and bad. Good because I don't have to do the division and guessing of how many decks are left and the such, and bad because on a single deck, they might deal 66% to 75% of the deck - rarely anymore than that.
I do the basic count of AKQJ10 (-1) & 23456 (+1). 789 are neutral cards and not kept track of. I also keep a seperate count of how many aces have been played.
I like to play alone with no other players at the table (but will play with a maximum of one other player). I play two hands at a time.
Keeping count has never been an issue - getting the cards I want, always an issue.

and then I learned that the "come" bet was where it was at...
I was told to stay away from picking numbers (save it for roulette)...
I just play the same strategy that you'll find if you search "craps strategy" on google basically find a table that allows maximum odds bets some allow up to 20x or more some only allow 2x then play minimum on the pass line and max on the odds bet because it pays almost the actual odds that that number will be rolled

Blackjack. And if you are lucky to have one decent run of cards, get up for good after you lose a few hands and have won a decent amount. Do not sit at a Blackjack table for very long, or you will eventually give it all back and then some.
I would rather watch paint dry than play the insanely boring game of Pai Gow again. And poker is one of the WORST bets with the exorbitant rakes they take out at the ring games (a guaranteed $6 down the shitter every half hour).

I have heard that this is the most sound strategy for craps in terms of taking advantage of the odds and find a table that offers the best odds

Let's say you start with $1000 at a blackjack table. Things go well, and you're at $1900. NOW IS THE TIME TO WALK AWAY!
I can't tell you how many times I've been there or have witnessed others trying to 'round off' their winnings, going for 2 grand, so they can brag about doubling their/my money. Pretty soon you start chasing, and all of a sudden, you're down to $1500. You still made 500 bucks, BUT YOU COULD HAVE HAD 900!
I don't care what amount you gamble, if you've already doubled your money, don't try and chase for 3x/4x/10x, whatever.........
Stay smart, play sober, win................

Another good rule for gambling is the 90% rule.
