Truth be told there's really no such thing as the best guitarist,it's all about style, the majority of those listed above can play anything their peers play effortlessly, if ya put a gun to my head I would say Hendrix only because he was the first to up the bar, in 1967 most players were based in the blues, he opened up pandoras box to all kinds of crazy shit.

I stand by that they didn't fix the cards against certain people.  obviously they did other shady shit like steal money.

And I certainly stand by my comment about Eric Clapton, which I'm far more qualified to comment about considering I'm a professional musician, with a music degree, and I'm also a guitar player.  He is overrated at 2nd or 3rd best of all time.  He's very good.  but nowhere near 2nd or 3rd best of all time.  therefore, he's overrated.  simple comment, really

Jimi Hendrix was quoted as saying, "Jimmy Page is the greatest guitarist I've ever seen".  That's quite a compliment and very difficult to ignore.

It is all a matter of personal opinion ..I don't think having a music degree makes you any more qualified  to judge who is the best player. I doubt any name on all the lists mentioned has a music degree. And really just because you say you play guitar doesn't matter much either...
