An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.
The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan". All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little..

The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F. As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else. To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed. It could not be any simpler than that.

Remember, there IS a test coming up. The 2012 elections.

Misfit:

Socialism would not work, but we will never be a Socialist country, so this isn't something to worry about.

I won't vote, because it's pointless, but Obama should get re-elected because the Republican candidates are awful.

Let's not forget that the President doesn't really do anything.  He is mostly an ambassador.  He doesn't really have a lot of power.


I liked your story though.  Really cool stuff.  Not looking for a debate here.  Just telling my opinion.

Well Obama is not a socialist  (smear word from the right wing machine). Obama is a social liberalist.

Those who practice social liberalism are usually center left politicians. They believe in business and government both play a role in our society. The best of both worlds.

I like you Mikael; you never disappoint.    I'll be in Denmark this summer.  I'll let your government buy us both a couple of beers.

Both socialism and capitalism have weaknesses and strengths.  But the success of any system can be judged by how widespread it is.   Socialism and capitalism are found in every country in the world.  Out of necessity, socialism is common in schools, military, hospitals, police, utilities and garbage collection.    Perhaps, combination of both systems is best for modern society.

you should turn off your television and stop listening to what they say about Dr Paul's foreign policy. we were a non interventionist country until the Federal Reserve and WW1. a deficit of fiat paper currency not implicitly backed by gold has been a century of total war. find me a time from 1913 until present that the US was not bombing some far off country

Where everything is rationed out equally. All jobs are based on standardized testing to insure maximum productivity of each individual. Reproductive rights are based strictly on genetics. Med Bots determine who is able to work and who is not.

That is entirely possible. I'm married to a Swede, and she occasionally has to fight the urge to invade and re-conquer the place. 

I remember seeing a republican on fox news say "Not everyone can be a CEO we need people to clean the bathrooms." That's politics for ya. Anything that has a label, title or -ism at the end will never work. Plus blame, religion, and hatred always get in the way of progress. The answer to the worlds problems hasn't been thought of yet.
