The reason I don't like Ice Box is because I like to see the horse do something as a 2yo. It took him four cracks to break his maiden, and he finally did at the Meadowlands. This year, he couldn't compete in the Fountain of Youth, which I think was a tougher field than the Fla Derby. Fla Derby win was OK, but the field wasn't that good and it was six weeks ago.
Good luck with whoever you take. When I finally decide what I'm playing, I'll probably post it in this thread.

I'm with Fatroll here.... No chance for Jackson's Bend....... He loses both his last two by 10 and 8 1/2 lengths. He wouldn't have even finished 2nd in the Wood if Awesome Act hadn't have thrown a shoe and had Leparoux strangling him the whole while.
He is a fair Presser, more suited to a mile and nothing more. He will not be able to keep up with many of these and add to the fact that his breeding suggests he'll hate the slop and you've got a losing proposition. Should be 30/1.

And as far as Slop favoring the front...hogwash. Yes, some of the horses behind will be bothered by the flinging mud but it's more of a matter of which horse likes it. Plenty of horses win from off the pace or out of the clouds in the slop including last years Derby winner. Line of David, the fastest of the horses fractionally through the first two calls worked by himself on the muddy track and Sadler said he hated it and was very disappointed by his effort. The slop will matter but don't go throwing out competitive horses just because of it.

Calvin Borel won two recent Derbies, and people may say he is due to lose. However, he has been hot lately at the track and won with a great ride on a longshot last year (Mine that Bird). Also, Dublin raced twice at CD, and did not fare well. Dean's Kitten raced once here, and did not do well either. However, in his only CD start, Borel won by five lengths on Super Saver. And in his last race, Borel rode splendidly on his horse on a track similar to CD in OP.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And you won't find a BETTER jockey for CD in this spot than Borel. Super Saver is this years Derby winner, slop or not. Also, Pletcher's best horse, Eskendereya was obviously scratched, and it would only be fitting that he win the race with this other horse. 15-1 DRF line is too high, and I expect this horse to be closer to 10-1 at post time.

#4- Super Saver lost to 4 of these before and what has changed
Super Saver was $4.40-1 closing odds in his last race at Oaklawn Park. And he came in second by a neck to a 17-1 shot who held on with a gritty effort. If nothing changes, then he should be able to repeat that excellent performance and run another great race. And if Line of David pulls that front running style again in the Derby, he will be lucky to come in the top four.
Also, in his only race at Churchill, Super Saver ran brilliantly. Just because he lost a race does not mean much since he ran and placed so well in the process.

I think Super Saver is going to go off as the favorite. If I were betting that horse, I'd look at betting him with a sportsbook, if you can get him locked in at 10-1 or higher. My local has him at +1100 right now.

Yay! Hooray for Calvin, the toothless hillbilly! I really need to stop playing the Derby. It's a joke. It is a cavalry stampede where better horses get slammed around and cut off and there are never any inquires. Add the fact that the slop ruins most of the horses consistency and the whole thing turns into a crapshoot.
Calvin knows how to ride at Churchill to be sure but everywhere else he is a 2nd tier jock. No way Supersaver is a triple crowner. Icebox was the better horse and will win the Belmont if entered and with any bit of contested speed.
Think from now on i'm gonna sit out the Derby and take advantage of everyone's faulty opinions in the Preakness and Belmont based on what they saw at the Derby earlier.
And yes...it may be sour grapes but it's also true....
