It's a 14 race card with the last race being the Florida Derby. Junior Alvarado won't ride the favorite #10 Sovientry for Bill Mott due to fracturing his shoulder blade caused by a fall in the last race on Sunday in which his mount Term experienced a heart attack & was vanned off. Manny Franco picks up a real nice mount.
10 of the 14 races are Stakes with decent sized fields. There will also be 3 nice Allowance races & a good looking MSW with some excellent breeding in Race 5.
In Race 7, one of my favorite horses #4 White Abarrio races. He won the 3 mil Pegasus @ GP in his only race this year winning by 7 & it could have been 15 lengths. He paid $7.60 that day but we won't get those odds Saturday.
Feel free to add your comments & ideas regarding the card.

Hello, my friend! glad to see you back in the saddle. I'll surely be watching the Florida Derby, as it's one of the races that lead up to the Kentucky Derby. In your opinion who is the most underrated horse in this race?

I'll be printing the past performances tomorrow morning & start capping tomorrow night & before March Madness starts up again Thursday evening.
My wife is a huuuuuge Michigan State alumna/fan & we'll be going to a place called Stingers in Pompano Beach where the Spartan alumni watch football & basketball games. We get a decent crowd of 30 to 40 people but since the game is on a Friday night, I expect the place will be packed. It's in walking distance of the beach & has decent bar food but are known for their pizza. A bucket of Heineken goes for $21 which is inexpensive especially as our tourist season is coming to an end & all of our Canadian visitors will be leaving in early April..
Over the last few weeks, the boss & I have been spending a lot of time with Meals on Wheels. Damn, there are so many elderly & disabled people who need this service & future federal funding is up in the air. It freakin breaks my heart to see some of these folks who have absolutely no one in their daily lives. When time permits I'll play checkers or a couple hands of Texas Hold'em to help keep their minds & spirits up for a little bit. These folks are absolutely terrified that we'll stop bringing them food & I don't know what the hell to tell them because I don't know shit & neither does our branch office. Maintaining the dignity & trust of these folks is so important to me but I can't tell them what's going to happen & they think I know but won't tell them which kind of sucks.
Apologies for rambling on here in the Horse forum. Hell, only a few people drop by this forum anyway. Be safe brother.

Unfortunately he'll go off @ 2/5 & could go off @ 1/9.
He's back in the Saffie Joseph barn where he's flourished. He's banked almost 7 mil & he wins at a 45% clip. Joseph has 3 here in this 7 horse field with Pletcher's #2 Tuscan Sky being the only real competition IMO. I think Irad will sit chilly on him, push his button & win easily.
As you know, anything can happen in horse racing so we'll have to see.

Sorcerer's Silver won easily by about 7 for Irad/Dale Romans.
Got 2 more Stable Plays today.
Gulfstream Race 8 #4 Mish ML 5/2
Turfway Race Race 6 #2 Event Detail ML 5-1
Tyler Gafflione will be out for quite a while after breaking his left ankle during a post parade yesterday. Money Mike Smith will pick up his mount on Madaket Road for Baffert. There will be quite a few pickup mounts available with both Tyler & Junior Alvarado out with injuries.

At GP, #4 Mish went 4F in 45 seconds & cooked his own butt finishing 3rd. On the other hand....
At Turfway, #2 Event Detail came from last about 10 lengths off the leader, went about 7 wide into the stretch & won going away by a couple of lengths.
Paid $8.76/ $5.36/$3.98
Exacta 2-6 paid $63.52.

Hello, my friend! thanks for the continuing news regarding the Florida Derby, really looking forward to watching this. Knowing that like me, this is NOT your first rodeo when handicapping horse races this was found and added to my handicapping folder here and since you are saying that there is a possibility of a wet track you might find it to be worthwhile.
Also, will they switch the race to the tapeta track given and considerable rainfall?

No Freddie. They will keep it on the dirt track even if it gets muddy. Now the weather report is showing possible showers & if those showers are coming from the ocean as opposed to the Everglades in the West it could be hit or miss.
Sovereignty will be the chalk but I just came across an interesting factoid while capping.
In the last 10 years, the winner of the Fountain of Youth which was Sovereignty has only won the Florida Derby as well once & that was in 2023 with Forte.
Now #9 Tappan Street is a son of Into Mischief as is #10 Sovereignty & he had the lead going into the stretch of the Holy Bull only to get caught by my Kentucky Derby colt Burnham Square who subsequently crapped the bed in the Fountain of Youth running 4th. And #1 Neoequos had the lead into the stretch in the Fountain race only to get caught by a closing Sovereignty.
Confusing, right? That's why the ponies are tough to cap when you have to figure in weather/track conditions, jockey changes, whether a horse is progressing or regressing, early money bet for unknown reasons such as an owner putting big money on his horse just because he's loaded & hopes he has a chance. That's why many horseplayers leave the track scratching their heads trying to figure out WTF just took place.
BUT, when you cap a race that wins, the adrenaline rush is unreal like yesterday when Event Detail came from last to win easily. My wife thought I went nuts cheering for him down the stretch. Tomorrow will be fun & hopefully prosperous.

@Midnight1-Yes, I can relate to both the exaltation of winning and on the flip side the extreme agony of a photo finish or even the damn "Please hold all of your tickets, there has been a Stewards Inquiry to the finish of race 8, again, please hold all of your tickets" Years ago I won $730.00 on a $4.00 Place Pick All ticket at Delmar and in one race Eddie D did his usual thing and brought a horse out of the clouds on the extreme outside (almost out of camera view) I had an uncle that used to own thoroughbreds and raced them at what used to be Waterford Park in Chester W. Virgina, it's now Mountaineer Park & Casino. It was always fun being around the track with all the beautiful horses and many track personalities.
All in all, I look forward to all of the big key races leading into the Derby, they really make it fascinating. Make sure you cash a signer tomorrow!

Good to hear from you, Midnight. I always move Izzo up one spot in my brackets just on coaching alone. The sad news is that I was laying 3.5 last night and that Ole Miss buzzer beater got me. Looking forward to your picks as I'm concentrating on Oaklawn and the Ark. Derby. Good luck in all endeavors.

Same here...I laid the 3.5 pts as well, so that was a little unexpected burn. Gotta a funny story to share about watching the game last night with Spartan alumni.
Our waitress was an attractive women probably in her early 40's & her hair was a mixture of red, purple, orange & green. Every time she came by I couldn't take my eyes off he hair. At the end of the night she brought us our tab. She said, "You've been looking at my hair all night. Didn't you ever do something silly when you were younger?"
I told her yeah I did. In the Keys many years ago & I was so stoned I screwed a peacock & was just wondering if she could be my daughter. She alsost fell on the floor laughing. It was a good night for Spartan fans.
My selection in the 1st race today #6 got scratched. So I'll save the story until this guy is scheduled to race again. It seems like Manny Franco is picking up a bunch of mounts because of Gafflione being out of action. The weather is overcast right now & the sun hasn't come out yet all morning. It's pretty windy as well which play a role down the long Gulfstream stretch.
I also noticed Baffert has a horse entered in both Derby's today & nothing else on either card. He has Madaket Road in Florida & Cornucopia in Arkansas. Cornucopia has raced only once but is the 7/5 favorite. His race was impressive but he's going up against a few already seasoned 3 year olds here in Coal Battle, Speed King & Sandman. Maybe he's something special but I know that Coal Battle has tons of heart from this small barn.
Gonna check out the rest of the scratches/changes.

Irad got caught for the 2nd time near the wire on the chalk. WTF? Go figure
Race 4 a scratch makes this a 6 ladies race. 1-2-6 looks the best play but I'm passing for bigger fields later.
BTW..Gulfstream may look wet but it isn't. We had a spritz about 15 minutes ago. The sun still hasn't come out to play. Gloomy looking. Good time to make some moolah!
Just saw Dylan Davis interview. Sounds like a good dude

The rails on the turf course are out at 66 feet for the Grade 3 Orchid....watch for the inside horses...this should be a doozy. One mile plus on the turf. I honestly did not expect the six to wire the field in this race. Pass me the plate of crow!
