We will never see a triple crown winner in our lifetime

If Chrome couldn't get it done then we won't see one. He was our greatest shot yet but like Coburn said "they took the cowards way out" and he is 100% right.

I agree--if an above average colt could not do it against a below average field then it will be hard to do.

I could also make the argument that it also is unfair to have rested horses run the longest leg of the Triple Crown.  I have made this point in other times when this comes up.  Maybe if you beat all the horses in the field that also ran the other two races but lose only to rested horse as California Chrome did, then maybe it should still count as a Triple Crown.

So the Belmont every year would have like 3 horses in it, there would be a triple crown winner every other year, the achievement would be tarnished..

But --not saying they can't race---still money to be made---but like nascar maybe---you win championship without winning that race if you beat all the horses that are eligible for TC?  Dunno---maybe you could make it work if you require them to have raced in other two to be eligible to race at all---KDerby has what...20?  So whittle it down from there---Still be more than 3.

What about whoever wins the KDerby can be the only horse from that race to run Preakness---Then if he wins Preakness---he has to run against all new fresh horses again in Belmont---that way he will have to run against fresh horses in all 3 races? That be true test!

Coburn is just a sore loser, he didn't have a problem with it when CC beat all the noobs in the Preakness.  

He defiinitely wouldn't have said anything if Chrome won the triple crown.  

He does have a point though, but if it was all or nothing the races would have to all be 3 to 4 weeks apart.  

If that happened we would have a triple crown winner almost every year and it would take the hype out of it.

ridiculous comments by the owner, the triple crown should be a demanding task, 3 races in a short space of time is doable, but if it was easy to do, it wouldnt be worthy of the acclaim.

but Yes, there will be other triple crown winners, i would wager on there being one in the next 10 years

We have to understand that we see it differently because we are horse racing fans and are used to it. But for the premier events to draw the casual sports fan they do not see it the way we do. It is hard to explain to them surface, distance, breeding, etc. If you can recall back in 70s it was not this specialized and the casual fan was more involved. At some point it would be nice to see horse racing become more than an after thought for the casual sports fan.

Let's face the facts...CC Owner said all week he Guarantees a win, and the colt never looked better. The fact is he ran against sub-par competition in the Derby and Preakness, his times were ultra slow.

CC is a great horse, but he is no Secretariat,Affirmed, or Seattle Slew....He was beaten handily by 3 other horses...In 1973 when the Great Secretariat won there was a 25 year drought, this is the hardest feat in all of sports and should be kept to this standard....

I lost alot of respect in CC when the owner whined Saturday...He called Tontalist owner a Coward because he entered a horse in the Belmont that did not race in either the Derby or Preakness...Yet the really Elite Horses that have won past triple crowns raced against the same as they do today......

Idk how you could lose respect for this horse?!?!? I don't usually put people on blast but you are an idiot. The horse ran his butt off. The trip clearly didn't suit. Not sure if the distance wasn't for him considering the grueling campaign on top of the fact he did get injured( according to coburn he got injured coming out of the gate) but still pressed on.  No respect lost for that horse at all.  As far as coburn goes id say definitely lost some respect from a lot of people. But it was pure. And truth. Dude didn't sugar coat anything. Only if he woulda made his point before the race. I posted in another thread that all triple crown races should have a point system. Not just the derby. Obviously  with each race caring more points than any other 3 yr old race. It would force trainers/owners to enter their horses into each leg. Sure u coulda had the same outcome with the same entries. But IMO if it was a point system the Tonalist connections woulda had to run their horse in more than just the Peter Pan to have enough points to get into the Belmont.

I could give a rats azz about any of the owners...is it fair that some have 3,4,5 horses entered and have more $$ than god to play with....CC came in with 2 regulars Joes and almost pulled off the biggest feat in horse racing in many years so if that was me you know I just might be mad too it was a David vs Goliath moment...and with no TC look at how much more interest it will draw to the sport....what if the jockey was paid mega bucks to not push CC and keep the fabled TC out of reach for another year...the stands and whole Belmont area made a ton of money profiting from CC......maybe they should reverse the order of the 3 races then there would be no whining about making the distance and it would be a 20 horse shootout at the Derby...now thats exciting!!!

You cannot possibly compare him to any horse since then, no matter the field size. Secretariat ran the Belmont faster than Tonalist by over 4.5 seconds and would have beaten this field by more than 20 lengths...it does not matter what horse you choose, there is a reason Secretariat holds the world record for 1.5 miles on dirt, and the fastest Belmont Stakes time by 2 seconds.

I meant i lost respect for CC Connections....A Champion overcomes anything thrown his way, ask Affirmed,Secretariat and Seattle Slew...they all ran against fresh horses in the Stakes...And beat them handily...CC is a great horse but not a Triple Crown horse....Slow times throughout the 3 races.....Good horse very close to great....

His owner is a Dumb behind whiner.......Wah

I can't believe anyone who has been around horse racing would not feel that CC's owners are not a bunch of sour grapes cry babies. This is the way it has been forever and anything different would tarnish the great GREAT horses that won the triple crown. They ganged up on smarty jones and quite a few others...silver charm, sunday silence to name a few who I thought were tremendous horses and they didn't get it done and they did not WHINE!! CC was in my opinion not a great horse and he didn't get it done...period. you big baby!!!
