you should never buy something because someone told you to, so you should do some research. And i'm mostly a short term trader with a few long term holds. so you are probably not ready for any short term trading yet (hell, i'm probably not even ready for it!). long term stocks I like:
CRDC - favorite among the guys on this board. but you have to wait it out. it is a long term play. medical devices to help heart surgery
NGAS - natural gas company. could see a big run up for hurricane season, and natty gas is on fire right now anyway
GU - chinese oil and gas
DGP - double long Gold
AUY - gold and silver exploration
MVIS - technology, they are creating a mini projector that will hopefully be put into cell phones. also into cars, military headsets. also very speculative
I own all of these. doesn't mean you should though.
I also like HANS long term, but wouldn't be buying it right now. i've made many good trades in it, but i watch it carefully. I suggest that you start to see what we're talking about here. visit some other sites and start a watch list. get to know how things trade, why they trade, what effect news has, etc... before jumping into any one name.

Yeah the view was whacked for me also Gunners, good move and good advice as well.
Only $2,000?? I hate losing any amount of money. Besides 2 K is a lot if you don't have it any more. Keep a cool head, do research, then do some more, and ask yourself why you are dead wrong about an industry or a certain stock. Then ask someone what they think of your pick and be ready to justify your selection to him or her. Join an investment club if you are more social than I am.Read at least ten investment classics.
One nice thing about this and other areas is that you can bounce ideas off people.Sometimes spending your time arguing with yourself can drive you nuts.
Good luck. But guard that 2 K like it is the last 2 K you will get. It is a treacherous market given tremendous macro headwinds...and lastly, stick with what you know, particularly at first, in the industry you are in...GL

PS I have been mystified at the previous run up, so I see more selling. However, should oil give almost any indication of stopping its rise, it may give an excuse for a rally. But the American consumer remains tapped out with little relief in sight, and frankly whatever bump up the stimulus checks might provide will be already consumed eaten up at grocery stores and gas stations.

2k is just enough to get in trouble..not enough to buy shares in a larger name, so you get sucked into the penny pool and the odds just left the room and went to the market. Odds you lose on a penny is much higher than a listed stock.
Maybe save up and learn, build savings to 10k and then get rolling.

Just hopped on some CPSL myself....someone in the other thread mentioned that one and it looks tempting. Let's build a bunch of steel shipping containers now!!

Everyone and his dog seem to be piling on the oil train or capitulating on shorts.
Either way, it's soaring through the roof with no end in sight.
Will wait for the "blowoff top" and try to time the reversal for a trade.
Yes, yes, yes......."fundamentally," oil couldn't be stronger------every idiot like I knows that, but it is getting severely overextended technically and is ripe for some sort of reversal.
Bottom line is this...........when the peanut gallery piles on, the party is over.

Hybrid Technologies, Inc., a development stage company, develops and markets electric powered vehicles and products in the United States. In addition, through a subsidiary, the company offers telecommunications services to business and residential customers utilizing VoIP technology.
Down a point today at $ 5.23... Thinking maybe I'll buy some shares.

Anybody have an opinion on HYBR?

I don't know that one, but "alternative mania" is alive and kicking now, for sure.
Probably, at least for now, you can't go too wrong buying these overpriced names on pull-backs and then just riding the tails of manipulators running them up and busting up shorts.
QTWW got run all last week and so far this week. CPST is also getting run. Manipulators have a field day with crappola like that.

Another thing that "could" possibly keep atlternative mania running some more.....
The election.
The two clown puppets who are going to get the nominations will lie, promise, and fabricate anything to get possible votes. All that means is those crappy overpriced ticker symbols will keep getting run.

Just bought NOEC at 6.04 to add to my position that I've held since 10/07 when I bought it over 7. It has been showing signs of breaking out and actually has decent numbers unlike most of the other alt energy stocks.

That MXC has 1.76M shares outstanding and a float of 500k shares.
You could try and buy 200 shares and move it 5 bucks..50 cent spreads and wild action on no shares.
This sucker will retrace 30 bucks down one day..it will not take much. Too bad there is no way to short shares on that one, no firm will have any to short.
It has 3M in revenue, a book value of 4 bucks..yet at 50, and selling at tech bubble prices.
