I was there last week, made $30 of race wagers (on the same race) and recieved 2 drink tickets.
If you're worried about booze money, there are ways around it.
One: get a race form and make small ($2-3) horse wagers periodically, you'll get drink tickets that way. It's a fun thing to do and if you know anything about horse racing, you just may win a little.
Two: You can always sit at the bar (you still can see the big screens) and milk the vp machines forever. Play keno at a $0.25 a pop, and you can play forever. Even if the bartender's a dick, you can still get around it, here's how. Make sure you a few $5's on you. Put an intial $20 in the machine order your drink, bet max, so the bartender sees this. He walks away, bet minimum. The bartenders dont usually hover over your machines to make sure you're playing (some do, there just being dicks to be dicks). So, when he/she isn't near you, don't play at all. When they walk by, act like you're playing. When you need another drink, play max credit, don't hit "draw" til the bartender is handing you your next drink. Milk the original $20 for as long as you can, then add a five or some singles as needed. Believe me, you can do this for hours and hours.
Three: Every hotel Vegas has a convience store with liquor and beer in it, with a cooler full of single beers for sale. There are no rules about bring in alcohol from a different establishment or anything like that in the casinos, like there are in "normal" bars and restaurants in other states. Simply find the place, hopefully it's within reasonable walking distance to and from the sportsbook, and just go buy your beer periodically there. If it's a far walk, by two or three at a time.

I live in Waconia, MN. About 35 miles Southwest of Downtown Mpls.
COOL - hope you can make it! This is my 6th trip to Las Vegas and first time going during the NFL and College Football seasons. I usually go in March (for March Madness) but last year went for NFL playoffs and the year before that it was for the Superbowl (Pitt vs. Seattle).
Looking forward to going in the Fall for the first time instead of Jan or March.
