Downtown offers real cheap rooms but you get what you pay for. My advice would be the Luxor, Monte Carlo or even the MGM. The rooms are pretty nice but not as expensive as Wynn, Bellagio, or Venitian, these are the priciest. Mandalay Bay or even the Mirage might fit into your budget as well and are a step above the first three I mentioned.

If you go to Vegas.com you can shop rates at different hotels and package it with air at various time slots. Good site. I usually go that first weekend myself. Maybe we can hook up for a drink!
Good Luck!

Hey KGC...I'm a new poster, but have been lurking on this forum for years... your run in CBB is amazing...Vegas won't want to see you coming!!!
I just got back from Vegas for the third time...I won't recommend a hotel 'cause I choose the cheaper ones (IP, Flamingo) for two reasons...first is location - you'll want to be on the Strip, and second, you won't spend much time in your room...although you did mention you were taking 3 girls, right? ...in that case, better spring for a jacuzzi suite!!!
I expect you'll be in sportsbooks for the most part, but if the girls manage to drag you to a show or something, Carrot Top (Luxor) was hilarious, but the Criss Angel Show (Luxor) was disappointing...more of a Cirque du Soleil show with a few illusions thrown in...as far as sportsbooks, a lot of good ones, but I've never been during March Madness...it should be busy enough that you'll be able to lose the girls quickly :)
There are some discount ticket places where you can get show and/or buffet tickets at reduced prices...can't recall the name (5 locations), but one of the kiosks is at the front of Bill's Gambling Saloon...
...and remember to take good walking shoes!!!
Hope this helps...
...Oh yeah, winning a bet is great, but is there anything better than watching the Steelers crush the Patriots???

Planet Hollywood is a no...Mandalay Bay is nice...If you are going for the toruny I would suggest Cesars or MGM...If you are looking for clubs etc...Id suggest either Hard rock or The Palms...
All of those will be atleast 200+ a night on weekends...
If it is your first trip Id rec that you stay on the strip...Whats your budget like? I might be able to get you a room at Venetian or Cesars for really cheap...Let me know.

Me and a friend have been going there twice a year for the past 20-25
years, once during the first week of March madness and again in the
fall. We generally stay at the Golden Nugget downtown since they blew
up the Stardust.
Nice rooms, reasonable prices, recent remodel, good comps with $25 minimum table play.
Sportsbook is relatively small compared to some of the large strip
hotels but for this week they open up a huge banquet room with many TVs
and a few extra betting stations.
Mirage is, very nice, large
book, good poker room. Can get a little pricey.
MGM is a good choice as well.
Strip is probably better for shows, spas, shopping, etc. for the ladies!

if you are sharing a room with three girls, it would be cheaper, too!
flamingo is cheaper than most, right in the heart of the strip. it's ok, not anywhere near "new" feeling, but does the job. MGM I think is cheaper than most but pretty nice. if you stay in a casino-less hotel (there are some there close to the strip), you can easily cab anywhere. there are great deals on ebay and craigslist from time to time, so try that, too.

Dude, by far, the best experience during March Madness is at the Hilton. They have ever game going on in their theater. I've lived here for 4 years and I've been to other places to watch the games and it sucks compared to the Hilton. As far as staying there, I'm getting a suite this year and it will run about $250/night.
If you want to stay on the strip, I would recommend, Mirage or Planet Hollywood as it's much better IMO since it changed from the Aladdin.

We just found flight from Charlotte(direct on the way) get there at 10PM and leave sunday at noon. We stay at Excalibur and have one room with 2 queen beds. That's flight/taxes/hotel. That was the cheapest one I can find. That's the 18th through the 22nd. The girls will do their thing through the day, while I live in the sportsbook. But i'm sure i'll choose my games that I want to see
WSU I'll look at anything you can do for us. I want to book in the next week or two though.

I have stayed at the Excalibur, it's cheap and in a great location. You can walk to Luxor and mandalay Bay without even going outside. It's also on a corner with MGM, NYNY, and Tropicana. The rooms are standard, but who does anything but sleep in their rooms a couple minutes a day while in Vegas.....of course you are going with three girls though

Thanks guys. Yea I really didn't want to go by myself, so I needed to find something everyone else could afford. I have a friend that lives out their that I played ball with in school. I forgot about that and just e-mailed him. One of my roomates friends dad used to be CEO or something like that of MGM Grand. So he might be able to do something for us too.
All help is appreciated. I'm just ready to get out there. The bad thing is I really don't gamble on anything else, so the sportsbook will be it for me. Can you go to any sportsbook or do you just get in to the ones that you are staying at?

Yuppers...you can goto any and all the sportsbook you want...free drinks in the sports book if your gambling...many of them have gone to the freek drink coupon so ppl just watching the games don't get free drinks...
If you end up staying on the mgm end of the strip...you gotta goto the sportsbook at the mgm...if you end up in the middle of the strip...cesars is the sports book to be at...
if u are looking for cheap enterainment...i.e. low limit tables for craps or black jack or roulette u can't go wrong with casino royale...lol..
