Good info.  I'm headed there just before New Years.  Have floor tickets for Van Halen at the MGM Grand.  Excited already!

If there is an off season in Vegas, it is June, July, August, when it is 110 degrees.

I am not that old, but I remember when Vegas was inexpensive.  Now, it is not enough that they take your gambling money, they want to gouge you for everything else too.  It used to be a good place for tight-wads to visit, but now it is just the opposite.

But if you want to live it up for 3 days, and you have the cash, then there are few better places to visit.

I also just found out my buddy who plays at Borgata all the time in AC (Im from NY) has 3 free nights at the Wynn before Janurary I think...this could get ugly.
 
Here are some more stories and thoughts:
 
 
-I must have walked 20-miles in these 5 days. Im not kidding.
-The person who I beat, who finished in 2nd in the Tournament was Derek Pagel, ex Jet for 3 years (2003-2005), a 5th round pick of theirs who played at Iowa. I had no idea who he was until he mentioned it after. Thought that was kind of cool.
-I really want to go back and stay at a top notch hotel, just to get that TRUE atmosphere. So many little inlet restaurants with great views, or just those little martini type bars where you can just relax
-Ive never drank so much without a hang over. Thanking the gods on this one.
-How come I didnt see a Wendy's????
-Its really easy to get lost in some of these casinos...
-Hooters was nicer than I expected. Sure it was a small casino, but it was a nice room, which I needed. I recommend them, as Wed and thurs I think I paid less than 100 total. Went up to 225 or so for Fri, so I left.
-There was a place, I think maybe O'shea's that you could get Bud lights or any other beer I think for $1.50. It was a fucking steal.
-The beer at clubs costs WAY TOO MUCH. IM SORRY. Rum Junble isnt even a TOP TOP Notch one, and they wanted 8 fucking bucks for a beer. Most places in the city (NYC) wont charge you that...
-PRE GAME WHENVER POSSIBLE...I did that.
-Its so easy to find food at any time. Thank god for that.
-I was surprised at the lack of places to eat somewhat healthy.
-I could see almost the exact cut off point from where it went to really nice touristy on the strip to sorta gross...A block after the WYNN...
-Everyone at night is dressed to the "T" in some of these places. Shit was unreal.
-I saw a guy playing slots at the Wynn in the high limit room. I went to look, saw 3 casino guys behind him, and noticed it was a $500 dollar slot. After a few pulls the machine says he won $25000. He didnt even blink. I then felt shitty about winning just $2500!

what's Lake Tahoe got to do Vegas -- they're not close.

Lake Tahoe is totally different.. just a few casinos, 1 main club.  pretty much a ski/sowboarding town in the winter.  big lake/outdoorsy place in the spring/summer

Tahoe is nice if you're retired and want to play some really expensive golf and gamble in one or two very small casinos.  No other gambling town in Nevada compares to Las Vegas.

NP.  Glad you had a good trip.  And, you're right, Vegas isn't all that.  I used to come down here to visit all the time, and get very bored quickly.  The reason I like it here and used to come here to visit often is a simple on - gambling is legal.

I just don't get people that come here that don't gamble.  I just don't get it.  And, unfortunately, Vegas is changing and trying to cater to these people more and more.  It's no longer casinos with hotels, it's hotels with casinos - big difference.

You are correct in regards to the clubs with the strokes trolling for all the pretentious socialites, lemonsky. It's a joke, it seems all those clubs bring in the same people, gigging everybody with those cover charges and inflated drink prices.

I made a post last week about how I sat down at a table in the middle of a six-deck shoe and a guy asked that I not play since the table was on a roll.

I then went on a rant about how one person can't affect the outcome of randomly placed cards, then one of the guy's called me a "fucker" and so on.

Apparently, I learned from the fine posters on this site, there's an unwritten rule that you should never enter a blackjack game mid-shoe, unless you get everyone's blessing first. Being that I rarely play the game, I didn't know that.
