Now the Westgate charges for parking. all the money this hotel sank in the casino, new bars, carpet, new sportsbook- which is by far the best sportsbook in town, although William Hill has the best odds. Makes you wonder about these managers. Are you bosses really that stupid to charge for parking, not only they charge but there is 1 way in and 1 way out and you have to put your ticket back in the machine on the way out. I went there today to put bets in on opening day for baseball, I was so pissed off about the hassle with this parking that i took my $300 to bet to William Hill. I asked one of the sportsbook managers about the parking validation process and he said if you make a wager the parking will be free, really, so I cant come in and just pick up my sheets to study for the next days picks, without having to fork out 20 bucks to park.Way to treat the locals Westgate who make your sportsbook.Man oh Man do I miss the Stardust.Makes you wonder what these bosses are thinking. They put all this money into the Hotel and casino to make it nice to bring more people in and then they kick them off by charging for parking and eliminating smoking. the smoking part we can live with, the parking fee , hell no. My business now goes to William Hill. I dont use a players card that I have on tables or machines because I cant be bothered by them always asking me about using my card, I spend between 500-3000 everytime I walk in that place between dollar video keno and sports.William Hill was packed today and the Westgate was dead , Duh, I wonder why. I cant be bothered with the hassle of this and not to many people will either , when you see your quarrtely revenue down for the second quarter you realize why.

Another joke part is the mobile app you don't even get comp points using it! I been long gone from west gate the new management practically killed the casino. Tight owner.

Never liked Westgate. It was decent 10 years ago when it was the Hilton.

 

Believe it or not downtown Las Vegas is stealing a lot of the action from the Strip/Off-strip. Gaming numbers are up at the downtown casinos and down on the strip.(+6.4% Downtown, -1.2% Strip)

 Why? Downtown caters to the gambler, Strip caters to the Frat boy partier. Total paradigm shift going on.

In the 90's,the casinos tried to follow the Circus model and cater to family and kid-friendly and they found out kids don't gamble and baby-boomer parents don't binge or tilt.

Granted, Westgate DOES charge for parking when there's something going on at the Convention Center. Many times, the convention goers were parking in Westgate's lots for free so to deter that (and also reap the benefits), they started charging.

When nothing's going on at the convention center, parking is still free.

I wondered about that. A few weeks ago I was out there and didn't have to pay for parking. Once there was a big convention going on and they did charge for parking which I just laughed at and kept driving.

I don't know. last time the Mrs and I went to Westgate there was NO-thing going on at the convention center and the ticket gates were still down so you had to get a validation WHICH, btw, did NOT require a bet or phone account deposit to get at the sportsbook.

still I agree with the thread premise that the Las Vegas strip has become too much of a hassle esp for locals like me and the Mrs. we are strictly "local" casino customers now like South Point, Green Valley Ranch and Sunset Station (when we want Tex-Mex food). the strip is just NOT an option any more

Exactly. Add in Boats, Casinos and Slots nearby in most every state,
and internet books, and the build up of Macau for the Asian market,
and more revenue invested there in place of Vegas...
less & less heads each year, and those fewer heads gamble less...

Could we clarify; Does westgate charge for parking everyday? or just when convention center is showing? What is charge and do you need to bet to get validation/comp?

parking is complimentary to all SportsBook players 24/7 however, you must be validated; or pay, regardless if there's a convention in town or not...Westgate has simply opened its back lot to convention parking for $20.00 noting there's a convention in LV just about every week of the year

Mrs and I went to Westgate for the $5 locals "hobble & gobble" buffet Monday and like MoneyGone said earlier with NO event at the convention center the gates were OPEN so NO hassel with getting a ticket validated which, like sports_Network said, is really NO big deal IF you are a player

What's the "hobble & gobble" what do you mean by, $5 locals? is it every Monday? (or did you just happen to be their on that particular day?) does it have anything to do with the regular buffet? I know; so many questions..reason being, I eat at the Westgate buffet occasionally, and find the food exceptional for a buffet style breakfast lunch or dinner, and I am unaware of any $5 local price tag..Can you be kind enough to explain this buffet that Westgate offers to 'locals' thanks

the "hobble & gobble" was the nickname of a cafeteria I used to eat at in Winston, NC when I used to go there for simulator training with the airline. was inexpensive and had seniors deals  SO the old people would "hobble in and gobble up" the food hence the nickname 

that is why the Mrs and I call the Westgate buffet the "hobble & gobble" because from Sunday thru Thursday it costs just $5 for locals with a Nevada ID and points on their players card which are used to pay. one of THE few really "Old Las Vegas" buffet deals left in this town

just keeps getting worse and worse at the Westgate. Mrs and I went Monday and buffet was closed SO ate at the snack bar. food is decent BUT they have discontinued the 25% locals discount AND raised the prices about 30%. Rubin "Samich" (which IS very good) I used to get for like $6 with the discount NOW $11. we use points to pay for it just like the buffet BUT it's the "principle". it is like they are doing everything possible to drive locals away. I have noticed lately that IF there is NOT a convention going on, there is NOT much of a crowd in the "Superbook"

I'm beginning to believe that the Westgate ownership has issues with the distinction between a time-share operation, and the ownership of a Las Vegas Hotel & Casino.. the two best commodities LVH had to offer (SuperBook, and its convenient parking & one of LV better priced Buffet's, one of my favorite's) is gone...can you imagine, the buffet is closed? or is it just on Mondays? what difference does it make anyways...what Hotel closes a buffet that's been going on for 7 days a wk for the past 40 years...on the bright side, the SuperBook is one outstanding renovation...

Westgate Buffet operation has been "sporadic" lately. hard to tell WHEN it is open or closed during weekdays. Mrs and I always call ahead before going unless I have to do some business with the sportsbook. than it is "quick in quick out"

you are absolutely correct about Westgate ownership, S_n. I once met David Siegel at the Westgate buffet and we had an interesting conversation over dinner. it became VERY obvious that he had NO idea about gaming operations. he has a reputation for being a "bottom line squeezer" that tries to run ALL his operations "on the cheap" and it is beginning to show at the Westgate
