You might as well throw Jones in there. I think Glover is the easiest opponent Jones has had in a while.

The wrestling vs judo is certainly going to be an interesting trade off

I like Lawler myself. I think his wrestling is good enough to defend. He hits comparably hard, and I think is faster. Has a little more experience perhaps. With lots on the line, I don't think either guy will be overly aggressive, flying in for the KO.

My money is Rousey, but the only way I see her losing is via decision. Rousey is great at tying up and throwing people, but she does expose her back a lot when she goes for her head and arm throws. Carmouch exposed that, and McMann is at a higher level than anyone Ronda has fought, and I don't think it will work that easy on her. I think McMann can actually get the takedown, but RR is well rounded and quick with her armbar from everywhere, and that's where McMann has to becareful. SM can control her hips while in the guard and try to ride out a boring decision. But I don't see it happening.


Rhonda is the more well-rounded fighter and is a finisher. The only way McMann wins is via decision.

robbie has ko power in both hands whereas johhny has just the straight left and has yet to even develop and uppercut. lawler has the better kicks and more proven chin at the higher weight as well

everyone knows that robbie has power in his left but look at his one punch ko with his overhand right, while fighting with an injured right leg, against a much, much more devastating puncher in 185 manhoef...one of two guys to ever ko heayweight mark hunt.

hendricks has a tendency to blow up in weight in-between fights(ive read reports where he has gotten as high as 210-220) whereas robbie is always in shape.

i like lawler here as well and if he can get out of the first round where johhny has almost all of his kos and none after the first minute of the second round i think the naturally bigger man with the more proven competition at 185(manhoef,keenedy,souza,shields,babalu), wins.

Jones and Gusto are stone locks.

Rousey losing a decision just doesnt seem realistic.  She would have to be absolutely dominated for this to happen.  The UFC has crafted an entire division around her presence alone and she is a big PPV draw for them with GSP and Silva down.  They need her to keep winning and headlining.  McMann is going to need to CLEARLY beat her to win a decision or stop her of course.

Lawler has the power to trouble Hendricks or anyone but one thing Hendricks has shown is when he's threatened on the feet, he takes things to the ground.  I find it highly unlikely Lawler can stuff enough of Hendricks takedowns over 5 rounds.  They may be even on the feet but the takedowns will be the difference there.  Lawler has one path to victory, Hendricks has several.

I got an extra $2000 in my account that says GSP didn't lose to Hendricks. In reality, the only reasonable score card is that it should've been a draw with a 10-10 first round.

why would you draw any sort of analogy between a hendricks/lawler fight to that of a gsp/hendricks.? georges and robbie implement two completely different fight plans. one is a grappler/wrestler and one is a striker.


and the gsp that you are describing is clearly not the same gsp post acl. i have yet to see him defend a single leg while balancing on one leg and his sprawl coming out of a takedown is non-existant. the gsp/condit fights are irrelevant to a lawler fight because robbie will not be grappling nor allowing the underhooks of hendricks to play a factor in this fight as they did with gsp. 

the people that are backing robbie here will be anticipating that the fight will go the way of hendricks/koshcheck where striking will be the difference as robbie will be successful in staying away from the clinch, the fence and the ground.

lawler fought 185 souza extremely tough and had some success in defending the takedown and was also able to knock down ronaldo.

triangle theories are never wise as styles makes fights but how would hendricks fare against souza at 185? my guess is that he would get thrown around like a rag doll and ronaldo takes this fight anywhere and anyhow after the first round. complete domination.

your thread asks how some of the aforementioned fighters lose their next fights and i simply gave my opinion.

hendricks has several paths to victory?

hendricks has one submission win, the same amount that robbie has. so its safe to say that neither has and advantage in bjj.

if this fight were a striking match, essentially what the hendricks/koshcheck fight resorted to over three rounds as neither held an advantage in wrestling, who would you rather have? a guy with proven ko power in both hands(at a higher weight) or a guy that has proven ko power in one hand(at a lower weight)? also, robbie has shown the ability to throw uppercuts which i have yet to see from hendricks, just an uncommitted left hook and a great straight left. so if robbie is successful in keeping this fight standing there are "several paths to victory" that lawler can execute to win the fight as opposed to a straight left and left hook. 

like is said, just my opinion on how hendricks can lose which you said that you would listen to.

From reading this thread I swear you would think Lawler didn't really lose to superstars like Lorenz Larkin, Renato Sobral and Tim Kennedy over the last couple yrs.

You are acting like this is a 50-50 fight. If it was Hendricks wouldn't be a 1-4 favorite. Lawler losing to the above types is a reason why. Really, the McDonald win has sent Lawler through the roof in the minds of some when in reality, Rory is still learning and rough around the edges and doesn't have Hendricks' mentality or wrestling.

hendricks was around a -150 against both koshcheck and condit and know hes going to be a -400 against lawler?

the same lawler that just kod josh who went the distance in a competitive fight against johhny?

Those low odds were before he fought Condit and GSP, the cream of the division and proved himself as more than just a wrestler.

I didn't "cap" it as anything. The people who set the odds did. And in some cases, even higher.

actually the article was written about a month after gsp fought hendricks and after georges relinquished his belt.

right now the buy/sell is -331/+315 so lawler is sitting at as a 3-1 underdog.

i still dont understand the logic of robbies losses to sobral, larkin, souza and kennedy, all ranked or formerly ranked contenders, as having any relevancy to your argument that hendricks cant lose. these guys fight at a higher weight, have no common opponent denominator with hendricks, nor have any triangle theory support(jake shields being the only exception post gsp acl). if hendricks had beaten any of these opponents at either weight(170/185) then you can make a case for your argument. the only relevant common opponent is koshceck.

by your logic, hector lombard would also have no chance against hendricks because he has lost to 185 journeyman boetsch and recent three-time ko victim okami. i give lombard a great chance at beating hendricks as well. in fact, i would favor him to beat johhny.

hendricks' gsp win will have no relevancy over what happens in the lawler fight and should have no affect on capping it. if robbie can stop the takedown, or worse yet is stronger in the clinch than hendricks(where johhny beat gsp), then robbie has more ways to win in the standup.

when gsp realized that he could not effectively grapple with johhny and consistently gave up the underhooks georges had nothing else to fall back on as he no longer can shoot with the same velocity post acl. he cant outstrike johhny so he was lucky that the fight was as close as it was and the reason why gsp will in all likelihood never fight him again.

I bring up Sobral, Larkin, Kennedy because, well, they're just not that good and are middling fighters. Not sure what's so hard to understand about that.

Who cares about weights? Hendricks walks around at like 190-200 lbs. He just cuts vigorously.

My question is - why do you believe he can stuff Hendricks' takedowns? His TDD is mediocre and Hendicks is a national champion wrestler who can more than hold his own on the feet.

It boils down to this for me. Both guys can have success on the feet. Almost 50-50. Hell if you want to say it's 60-40 Lawler, fine. My point is it will be relatively close on the feet. Whenever a fight is comparably close on the feet what ends up settling it? Takedowns. Say Lawler outstrikes Johny 2 out of 3 rounds. Lawler isn't taking Hendricks down. You really think Hendricks won't be able to take Lawler down in 2 of the other 5 rounds?

sobral is not very good?

he was one of the best fighters in the world at one point and the first man to ever bet shogun. beat a prime jeremy horn who would also slap hendricks around. also beat chael but a different version of the sonnen that exists today.

also,  robbies loss to renalto was at 195 whereas robbie was never even effective at 185.

kennedy larkin and sobral are mw and lhws

why are you even making any sort of reference of them to a fight at 170? 

imo, hendricks would get easily handled by larkin and kennedy and absolutely wrecked by souza at 185. 

prime babalu(205) would slap him around like a little boy.

do you even understand why they have weight classes?

and i agree with you entirely that at 60-40 standup lawler is a great buy as a +300 as the main problem i see is his untested cardio going five rounds.

story and koscheck were successful in stuffing johhnys takedowns and i think that the bigger lawler will be as well and as strong as hendricks in the clinch.

if hes not then robbie probably loses 

if he is then, in your opinion, robbie has a 60 percent chance of winning this fight.

but please, stop mentioning robbies losses at 185 against formidable opposition because they will mean absolutely nothing on march 15th and have no bearing on the outcome of this fight, whatsoever.

there is no shame in robbie losing to babalu.

The Babalu that best Lawler was end of the line Babalu.

Pretty sure Hendricks isn't going up in weight for this fight. Pretty sure this fight is in the weight class he's always been in. You can talk all you want about how Hendricks would fare against light heavys. He's not fighting this fight at light heavy. He's fight in his natural weight class.

well i guess we are in agreement that lawlers losses with light heavies and mws are irrelevant because a good case can be made that he is now fighting at his "natural weight class."

in all seriousness the words "middling fighter" should never be used with babalu as this guy was such a bad as-s that he was fighting hws because there just was not enough competiton at his weight class back in his day.

heres a guy that babalu beat that probably walked around at 190 pounds(same as hendricks) and because of the dearth of talent at the time he had no choice but to fight on a monthly basis to make a living and was doing so against hws like couture, big nog, fulton, severn and yvel along with lhws arona, forrest, liddell and mw anderson silva.

now i see people making a big stink over hendricks as the next coming of a miracle and i just laugh.
