So the rumours about Tampa rebuilding were true, it seems, Snell to the Padres, while the Rays get: RHP Luis Patiño, RHP Cole Wilcox, C Blake Hunt, C Francisco Mejia. This is like an all-in move, for San Diego, too bad we wont see Clevinger in 2021, we'll have to wait and see if this move pays off for SD.
The 1 year deal contract pattern seems to be holding up, until now: Urena to Detroit, Holder to the Cubs. Adam Warren signed a Minor deal with the Yankees, while Kahnle signs a 2 year deal with the Dodgers, but he will most likely be out for the whole 2021 season, because he had TJ in August. So Yankees lose 2 big pieces of their bullpen, while bringing back a familiar face, no starting pitcher yet...

Make that "on the left coast." He sure should do well as the left coast is not just a political statement, but due to meteorology is also the best place for a lefty to pursue a pitching career. The differences you see, both offensively and pitching stat-wise are somewhat attributable to the climate and prevailing winds. He has got to be drooling at the idea of 13 or 14 starts at Petco, plus a few more at Dodger Stadium and Barry Bonds Dump in San Francisco. Interleague at Anaheim and Seattle won't hurt his stats either. Genius move for him, regardless of how the Rays come out of it. One good season there and they may offer him a career contract.

It is not my pick, this service who is not a crook, actually seems like a nice guy sends me a college and pro play a week,he sent me the Raiders on Sat.+2.5 which I did not see until to late and Pitt.on Sunday,
only reason I started posting them here was he has been on fire,he gives away his baseball picks for free but I do not play many of them,he is usually over 50% in baseball but does take a bit of juice, his prices are not bad either but I have never bought any but he stills sends the free picks,he has even sent his pay picks at times when his free ones lose, tell me another service that does that, lol.
@undermysac
Yeh no way I would of went for middle on Indy either,I had already chalk it up as a loss, how surprised was I when the money was off and I checked to see why, lol.

Padres get: RHP Yu Darvish, C Victor Caratini Cubs get: RHP Zach Davies, SS Reginald Preciado (Padres’ No. 11 prospect per MLB Pipeline), OF Owen Caissie (No. 13), OF Ismael Mena (No. 15), SS Yeison Santana (No. 16)
The Padres also agreed to a deal with infielder Ha-seong Kim on Monday.

Looks like the Darvish trade will be made:

Btw, Victor Caratini is a fine defensive catcher. With him and Austin Nola that's a fine combo. Nola is young and still needs to refine his defensive game. Great bat. Caratini will help him along the way, and the pitchers will appreciate it.
Zach Davies will benefit from being in the same club house as Kyle Hendricks. Davies has a great change up, and Hendricks is a master of the change up. Don't be surprised if he learns some tricks to tweak that pitch. For example, Hendricks is the only guy I can think of that throws a cut change up along with a natural circle change.

Well, after a quick search it seems San Diego had the #2 farm system, in the 2020 season, after being #1 in 2019. To answer your question, Padres still retained their top 2 prospects, according to MLB, Tampa got their #3 prospect. Imo this move looks like the Cubs wanting to shed salary, Yu is owed 62 mil $ in the next 3 years, also he is 34 and as we already know, prone to injuries. Snell is also owed 40 mil over the next 3 years. Ah one more thing I read, the now manager of SD is the former Texas Rangers manager, who was there when Yu was also a Ranger, that explains the move.
With this move San Diego definitely went all-in, so now that Machao signing seems to make sense and just the start of bigger things to come, although I think he wasn't worth that type of money. I dunno how their bullpen looks, but the Padres will be the Dodgers main rival in the NL.

Are you saying it is possible I will be rooting for my Padres next year, since I am sure Baseball will get the vaccine we should have a normal season,it sure looks like SD is getting ready for it,though paying 100 million with 40 million on a good pitcher, guess they are thinking people are going to run to watch baseball next year, sure seems to be a big gamble with our Country having a long way to go next year.
I do look forward to seeing some real baseball and I hope that dumb shit they were doing last year is done, esp.with pitchers, starters coming in sec.inning and pitching to the 4th or 5th inning or having relief pitchers doing whole games.
SD still has to deal with the Giants do not forget,Posey will be behind the plate running the show, not sure who will be throwing to him but lets hope they have someone other than the old guys they been getting thru the last few years with.

One more issue, why is Tampa rebuilding, they came close to getting to the WS,is it just selling players or dumping payroll,I would think the deal on Snell was not bad by baseball standards who could win close to 20 games unless TB starts trading position players also, anyone know if the Owners lost money last year or did they get enough money from TV to pay the bills?
sac has some web site I'm sure with that info if Key or LC does not know.

That is not good, most teams are lucky to have 2 good starters,2 guys you hope can win as many as they lose, and a 5th starter they hope they do not have to use every week, where the hell is a 6th going to come from and your going to need to increase the roster which is more payroll, and now you need extra relief because they used their bullpens every day last season,
your right sac Key and LC should have some good comments on this one, since when they were playing 4 man rotations were the norm.

I dunno why Tampa are rebuilding, I think sac was the first one, who mentioned here in this thread, that Tampa was trying to move Snell and a couple of other pieces. What's strange is that the Rays have the #1 rated farm system, so I don't think they lack the talent. As for the money, even in the normal times their audience was one of the lowest in the league, so they were one of the least impacted team's, revenue wise from tickets.
Phillies acquired Jose Alvarez from the Tampa Bay Rays, in a three-team trade with the Dodgers.
Since the vaccines are out, a full season to be played looks to be in the books, as for having fans in the stands, my prediction is it will be almost impossible to see full stadiums in 2021, because it will take time to vaccinate enough of the population, for that situation to be viable + there are a lot of mouth breathing morons who will refuse to take the vaccine, thus prolonging the pandemic.
@undermysac
I've heard the talk about a 6 man rotation for a couple of season now, from various broadcasters, so it's not something new, although we haven't seen it implied until now. What we did saw more was the bullpen day start, from more and more teams, but that was also circumstantial last season, with many games being postponed and the schedule being so crowded. We can all blame the Rays for the bullpen games.
Analytics wont be put back in the bag sac, it's here to stay, the challenge will be to insert the data it provides as seemingly as possible in the game, and this hasn't been done yet...

Key and LC will like this one... Dan Plesac on mlb network said that teams are hinting at a 6 man rotation. Reason being you ask? Bullpen arms are getting taxed. Really? You don't say? Analytics aren't allowing starters to go past 75 pitches(sometimes less), and now you have to figure out some RELIEF for RELIEF pitchers? What's next? People will start falling into depression when they are taunted via social media? Oh wait...
Good post, Sac.

Things are getting so ridiculous that I’m at a loss for words. Next they’ll be discussing expansion again because there’s such an abundance of talent out there

you have to give them a pass with the Archer trade ( maybe the best trade in history ) the most recent Alvarez deal got back 2 more prospects and I'm sure they are not done yet. they will simply retool and be fine. these guys are paid way more than us to make these decisions and I think we will look back late summer and tip our caps

I'm not questioning their ability to make good trades, having the #1 ranked farm system already proves that, but if your aim is to be competitive and you just went to a WS (granted the special circumstances), then why move proven pieces from your team? They already had the best farm system, with these trades they've only added to their already existing talent, but talent needs to be developed and the transition to the majors isn't always smooth, while a guy like Snell was well established and someone you've already relied on.
I dunno, what Tampa Bay did doesn't make a lot of sense, from a competitive standpoint, they are setting themselves to be just a team that develops talent to trade to other teams...

You don't trade away proven players. Especially after being in the WS. They've clearly done the right things to get there, and are now getting cute and out thinking themselves.

That was what I was also trying to point out, after a couple good years you find it is now time to dump proven for more farm players that could help later, but how many players in the system are ready to jump to the Show, like BigD said we will see,but to me Snell sound of been a keeper unless nobody comes to there games and 40 mill.for 3 years is to much, but top pitchers get much more than that, which was the other point.
Glad to read Chicago and Romania feel same on TB.

Blah, blah, blah. You guys have certainly been active during my absence.
I have only one thing to say about 6 man rotations. Why not just pay your highest salaried starters to stay home? Then they will never get tired or injured.
Bullpens would not be so darned tired, injured and overtaxed if your freakin starters were giving 6 innings and 100+ pitches. If they can't they were never developed as starters in the first place. Yeah, sure, let's send out Jackshit Dingleberry instead of a guy that might get through 5 or 6 innings with only 2 earned runs surrendered. My A #1 ace can sit at the end of the bench taking a nap to "preserve his strength" while Jackshit blows a game wide open giving up a dozen runs we can't overcome. Yep, makes perfect sense, Mr. stat-o-matic-launch angle-analytic-GM. You the man, genius. Since you are going to bring up or retain a bunch of guys that shouldn't be there anyway, just lower the MLB minimum wage and expand rosters to 35 players. No starter to go more than 4 innings or 75 pitches. Maybe you could even get a deal by which the scrum that don't belong there anyway don't get hotel rooms or meal money. Maybe the thinking is by watering down the rotations we will get more 20 run (four hour) games. Isn't that what they are after anyway? just think of the commercial revenue! Twelve pitching changes per game adds more commercial breaks! How exciting!
<--- Mental competence of those that think 6 man rotations are a good idea. Lock 'em up.
