2-2 yesterday; but a little profit cause 2 winners were doggies....
I've been thinking (a dangerous thing to do)...If there is anyone in this thread/forum that would like to work on playing 1st half football the way that we bet 5 innings, I'd like to hear from you. If anyone has been successful in the past and can help all of us with a "starting point" for making a 1st half side bet...that would be great.
On to Sunday...these are the games that I find interesting:
LAA/NYY: .276 vs .376.....What's that, you ask?.....That's John Lackey's on-base-percentage vs Darrell Rasner's OBP. Yes, Lackey has been bad game/good game recently and he is "due" for a bad game....But, he is the far superior SP, Rasner is just a serviceable 5th-6th starter...Yes, the Yankees scored more runs yesterday, Moose had his one inning and then pitched very well....but LAA is still the superior team offensively and should have an easier time against Rasner. We get, once again, a real nice fave price cause we have the visiting team, and that's value.
MIL/ATL: Ben Sheets has not had a 5-inning win for a while now...not since before he had that little problem in early July. Campillo has a superb .274 OBP and an era of .276. If Sheets can give ATL a couple of runs, that might be enough for a 5-inning win from the home doggie...ATL should lose the game, as they did yesterday; but have a strong chance to win the 5-inning bet...as they did yesterday.
NYM/HOU: First, an observation on that play at home plate yesterday...I watched that play a dozen times and I'm convinced that Ramon Castro forgot that it was a force play at home and tried to tag the first runner coming to the plate. If you get to watch it, look at how he moves toward the runner after catching the ball instead of moving his body toward first base and keeping just his left foot on home plate...that's what allowed the two runs to score because he dropped the ball..which was a perfect throw. The talking heads on ESPN never said a thing. As for today, I see another 5-inning win for the Mets with Perez keeping the Stros bats quiet while the Mets put up 2-4 runs against a bad Wolf.
That's it for Sunday.....let's talk

Gonna answer in this thread a question posed by Bigbozo early today in the Saturday thread....
Yes, I do play the +1/2 runline sometimes; but I posed the question about ONLY playing runline rather than moneyline for 5-inning bets and received some solid and interesting feedback from a number of posters who made a case for not playing runline...
I am, honestly, still up-in-the-air about the runline bet....as of now, I really only use it to lower the juice of faves and not so much for the dogs...even though the numbers say that they push & lose much more than would seem normal; I am not mathematically inclined enough to try and figure out if the wins that I would get from the dogs (at reduced juice) would offset the losses that I would get from playing runline on the faves..and losing...
Personally, I think that because the 5-inning bet can give you a push, it is a more secure/conservative approach and, therefore, playing the moneyline is more in line with that approach than playing the runline....I'm not convinced; but it looks that way.

You might be rationalizing a dog for this one. For me, a good pitcher sometimes needs an iffy line up to get back on track. Then again, the Braves revamped line up is hitting a bit better than I was hoping for. A little better, anyway.

Norse.....Sheets has not been the same since early July when he was out of action for a week....certainly not as dominant. I feel that Campillo is, right now, the more dominant SP for 5 innings...I don't see a lot of runs in the first 5 innings and think that Campillo has a better shot...the "dog aspect" just gives me value; but I would have played ATL regardless of the line.....nitey nite....

Thanks for answering my Petit question in Sat's thread MrOPC. I'm interested in 1st half NFL and College FB although I have nothing sound to offer.
LAA is missing a few players, is on its last road game of what seems a zillion and NYY always seem to play stronger in a Sunday afternoon game at home. Lackey does have the edge over Rasner but I'm not sold...how great was that game with Santana!
Perez is stronger than Wolf, but how much of a difference will it be for Wolf to throw with a HOU cap? Leaning towards the Mets to take one they should have had last night. As for the talking heads, I say turn down the volume and watch the tape.
Like Rusch over Olsen, not that great of an edge between SP, but COL bats are.394 against LSP while FLA is .254 and it's a good price.

MORNING MROPC CONGRATS ON YOUR DOGS YESTERDAY....WAS GOING TO BET CLEVE, BUT FEEL ASLEEP AND WHEN I AWOKE THE GAME WAS ALREADY OFF THE BOARD... ANYWAY.......
BALT/SEA....CABRERA HAD A GOOD 1ST 5 INN IN HIS LAST OUTING AGAINST THE YANKS....I THINK HE ALSO LOOKS GOOD FOR A BET AGAINST SILVA.

Rusch and Olsen are a trainwreck waiting to happen.....I really have to see at least one SP throwing well recently to look at the game further...and, with these two, I can't see it.
Who is out of the LAA lineup that was not in it for the 2 games that they won?
As far as Wolf, his arm is the issue and not his uniform.....since the departure of Rick Peterson, Perez (and Pelfry) have been totally different pitchers....and, remember for the purposes of this thread...THE METS DID TAKE ONE LAST NIGHT....nothing terribly wrong with their offense in this "fullgame losing streak"...they are 2-1-2 in their last 5 games.....

ONE COMMENT ON LAA/NYY GAME. IN HIS LAST START LACKEY THREW 120 PITCHES... IN A PREVIOUS START IN LAST OF JUNE HE DID SAME THING AND IN HIS NEXT OUTING AT HOME AGAINST TOR HE GAVE UP 6 RUNS.... COMMENTS WELCOME

NIce post, Panama.....I am concerned about Lackey's recent pattern and see that both teams could score some runs today....
Noaccount points out some lineup changes for LAA and I would like to find that out...still think that LAA/Lackey is stronger than Yankees/Rasner; but would like that lineup info....
GroundBall/Flyout stats are found on Covers.com matchup page...click on the pitcher's name and the last column of each start lists the stat. Yahoo.com probably also has some situtational breakdowns....My point was that the stat is, probably, a solid factor when looking at certain offenses; but you would also have to know what each offense likes....seems to me, that would be "information overload".....
BAL is the better team; but Cabrera hasn't had 2 solid outings consecutively....one decent outing out of his last 4 doesn't give me a lot of confidence in backing a road fave.....both SP's are really not very good pitchers.....

Do me a favor.....If you are going to come into the thread and encourage scam posters....then start your own thread.
I had thought that we had a solid dialogue going everytime you come into the thread with picks/analysis/etc.....
My writeup was out of character for me, yes....But this was the second time that this guy had come into this thread and he was in a dozen more in this forum....
I'll accept your apology ahead of time

Smeone also mention that Milk.might have some guys out today, might be a good day to see some line-ups first.
On those R/L bets I have a thought on them,I will take a shot on -1/2 on high juice which over 120 is getting more than I like, but if its -140 ish Im taking the R/l and might lose a few that would have pushed, but I also never take the +1/2,as again I get some pushes instead of wins, but to me it seems to ave.out in the long term, imo.
I do lower my bets on the R/Ls bet though.
I did take Milk for 5 innings though at even money on R/L,but might do under for game to hedge it.
Also like LAA and Colo F-5 innings,GL today.

Yes we do but I've used that free sight for football & they have some excellant write ups with their plays.Kind of like you do here. I don't suggest to play' em unless you like 'em just the same as in here. It just seems like you're a lil tight right now & a good lay might be what the doctor ordered.

Looks like Weeks Hardy and Cameron out for Milk, really only lost is hardy,as other 2 are hitting low 200s,then look at the players Atl.has out and traded, still like Milk.

I grew up and spent 60 years in the city....I'll assume that you're from there...hence your "sense of humor".....
BUT>>>>>>>>NOTICE THAT THE GUY HAS BEEN BANNED AGAIN.....I could care less if people go to other websites, free or not, for picks....I look at a bunch of them myself and know many of the pros that are part of those sites, there is, HOWEVER, no place in this website and my thread, in particular, for someone to come in and advertise a tout site...free or not. And, take my word for it Nutz, nothing is...eventually...free.
So, let's drop it and move on with what this thread is all about....

20 earned runs in 16 innings for Mendoza's last 4 starts and Purcey is an unknown quantity....wish you luck on that one; but you could be seeing a football score in that game.....
